Kholi should get a best reviewer prize.

Aw. Thanks, Jack. Actually, your reviews (when you got to them) smacked my reviews in the mouth.

Kinda like my mom did me when I said bad words as a child.

Timur, you're the one with the camera/lens background, and I'm still a noob at this stuff ... you previously said you stopped the lenses down about 3 stops, but I would only guess the above as one stop ... or am I mistaken?

Also, I know Mark was joking about never using more than 1K in lights, but what would you say you used on average? I'm especially curious to know what you used in that 'under the bridge/overpass scene', as the lighting was just incredible.

I'll have to check your first, page, but I'm DYING to know your camera settings, etc. ... and may seriously have to consider getting onto the SGPro bandwagon. Then again, the M2 is supposed to be pretty great as well, and Ryan thinks it was the Cannon lenses that were the issue in ours ... so he's switching to all Nikon lenses.

Lenses:
it goes F1.2 > F1.4> F2.0> F2.8 At the bottom of the scale the numbers are much closer together its a parabolic increase. Thugh maybe depending on the lens it could be somethign like 2.5 stops. but im using 5 different lenses, so im just averaging by saying 3 stops. I used Canon Glass. I LOVE canon lenses. they are crisp, organic, and add a subtle greenish tint to the footage that i LOVE. Though Nikons are a Solid choice as well. I just happend to have a huge bag full of Canon FD lenses left over from my dad. I learned to shoot pictures on them, they feel like home. Most likely the M2 was at fault its really easy to knock it out of wack. I doubt the lenses were "broken". I love my Sgpro. Its the best thing i ever bought next to my Pelican case, HVX, and Spiderbrace. :)

Lighting:
As opposed to the days of the DVX when the 300 was your key and you used 150 peppers as hairlights, the 1k became the workhorse, and the 650's move in to the role of fill, and key. the 300's become subtantially less powerful especially though Diffusion. ( Diffusion Diffusion Diffusion)

The Street scene was a 2k backlight down the block, and that really wasnt powerful enough, should a got a 10k(equivalent to tungsten) HMI and gelled it to tungsten so it fit more in the 5k role without needing Massive generators. That whole sequence was shot RAw lens, no 35 adapters. With a 300 and a 650 as Fill. I really dont like keylights. im all about backlighting, and just a bit of fill. i like shadows obscuring faces. some people didint like the darkness of Jacks face in the sctreet scene, but i was practically jumping up and down for joy at the nearly black/white drawing look of the bright rimlight against inky black. you really have to watch it on a big HD tV to see teh subtlety in the lighting. the tiny 400x 200 version is a joke. and even watching the 720 version on a laptop screen isnt doing it any favors. Just ask mark how he felt about it on my 60" screen ..... lol you'll get an Earfull.

Camera:
My settings are a secret i take to the grave. I sat there for literally 8 hours and found 3 scenefiles that are Bullet proof. Sharp, noisefree, and rich. Its in there. but you have to finesse it a little.

1.2 to 1.4 = 1/2 stop
1.4 to 2.0 = 1 stop
2.0 to 2.8 = 1 stop

So going from 1.2 to 2.8 = 2.5 stops.

yea barry's right, 2.5 stops down on the F1.2 lens. I made a booboo.

Canon does do a good job, and I was happy with a couple of the lenses I had. I switched to Nikon for two reasons - 1. Availability - I've had a hard time getting a hold of Canon FD mounts, and I can find new / used nikon's just about anywhere. & 2. the FD's I had we mostly non-FL, which meant I could not stop them down any and at fully open a couple of the lenses were to soft for my tastes. So while the lenses were not "broken" they did not fit my needs very well.

Now that I have the nikon lenses and I'm able to stop down, I can see a noticable improvement in preformance. Although I do notice that the M2 is easy to get out of alignment - which can be frustrating. The SGPro does seem interesting ....

Bastard!!! ;) :) Although I have to admit that I do understand - since using the M2 on both mine and Norms project I have spent a lot of time testing out various settings, and trying to get the image as noise free as possible - I'm not there yet, but hopefully I will get there ...

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say that Katrina really grows on me each time I watch it. I liked it the first time, but the cool thing is it really holds up well with repeated viewings. It's quite exceptional and I am most impressed with how well you pulled off the noir feel. :)

Only criticism I have is the bedroom scene still feels drawn out, but I can tolerate it. Is it "deliberate pacing"?

Kudos once again. :)

Los Angeles/Santa Monica. I live, and work, a shake away from Santa Monica airport. Ol' Greggl lives around this area as well.

I'm in the Salt Lake City, UT area, bros. I lived in SoCal (mostly OC) for 12 years but my wife is from here which meant sooner or later the family tractor beam would get me. ;) At least I can afford a decent home here. :)

Great locations in the state for lots of different looks and quite indie friendly too...but it ain't Tinseltown.

dude the Worls Scietologist headquarters is a stone throw from my workplace.... and there REALLY hot girls hang out in front trying to talk to guy t get them to come in to the palce..... its SOOOO creepy.
