Canon HV50 - 3CMOS, 18x zoom

This was posted on DVInfo. First I've heard of an HV50, which appears to be a beefed up HV20 (3CMOS, 18x zoom, etc.). If true, Canon is certainly making things interesting.

EDIT: It's probably a hoax (no such thing as 1080p HDV). Sorry, sorry...

It may not be a hoax. The html text and art around the camera says 1080p, but no where on the camera does it say 1080p. But if it's a hoax, nice photshop job.

Good point. I hope it's not a hoax! It would be an attractive alternative to the HV20, for those who want the benefit of 3 chips, etc.

Of course, i just googled various combinations of "canon", "hv50", and "1080" till the cows came home and I found nada. If it's not a hoax, it is curious that this one loan image is all that is out there. Hmmm.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if it is a photoshop job, boy, they did a good job. Specifically where it says 5 megapixels on the top of the camera. that would be a time consuming, difficult to get perfect element. And I have to wonder, why would anybody take all that effort and TIME to make a fake camera pic?

But then , I wasted my TIME doing ridiculous google searches for 45 mins, and then an additional hour or so searching every post on numerous forums for ant tidbit on this. :)

I need to get back to work.

The HVX shoots 1080p. There is very much such a thing.

...1080/24p is a recognized standard, and so is 1080/30p. - Both are recorded as 60i (though shot at 24p or 30p) on the HVX.

I however don't know anything about the camera mentioned in this thread.

A 3-chip HV50 would be very interesting, but I also wonder if this is a hoax. The inclusion of "720p" is enough to make me think that it is a hoax.

maybe it is 1080 60p downsampled from three 5 megapixel chips and perhaps they sped up the tape so that they can record 444 uncompressed with cineforms raw codec on a dv tape

and oh, that outer ring is really a focusing ring/aperture ring

I say fake. Too many good things to fast from Canon. I hope it makes the Panasonic people pee their pants.

After playing around in photoshop a bit I can definitely say it's a chop. A nice one too. A little distortion here and a bit of rotation there and the body matches perfectly over the original image. If it's true I'd like one. If not, seems like someone wants to soften the initial sales of the HV20. I still wants me a HV20!!

edit:

looking at the chop job again; why would one chop out the joint that allows the flipout lcd to rotate for self viewing? lol

I think it's fake too. But here's my problem with it.

The person that made it obviously knows a bit about cameras because this seens incredibly realistic, but why ruin it by going out of your way and mentioning 1080p and 720p?

He could have fooled everyone for a while but that ruined it.
