Grey Market Cams

If someone knows that their camera is Grey Market, but the warranty and everything is up, does it affect the camera? I mean, its still Panasonic and all that right?

There are no "counterfeit" cameras out there, they're all made in the same factory. The difference is in service and support and rebates; if the warranty's up then there's probably not much difference. Except for things like the menus being in Japanese, or not having the 7.5% setup option...

Grey market products are goods sold outside the OEM's (Original Equipment Maunfacturers) intended distribution chain. ie. Product meant to be sold in the Japanese market is sold in the United States. This practice happens because OEM's set pricing by region and it allows for disparities. Also certain disty's may get better rebates and then there is always currency arbitrage.

The product is still original manufactured product. The booklets may be in different languages or there may be different features, but the product is, in your example "still Panasonic product." The downside is usually warranty related where you will need to ship the camera into it's originally intended market to get it fixed if you have an issue that is covered.

Not all companies that sell grey market are non franchises, but most are.
If you buy product from a non franchise distributor, often these companies are not reliable and fly by night. In addition to selling grey market (good product in unintended market), they may also have fraudulent practices. Bait and Switch, sell itemized, forced additional purchases, steal money, aggressive customer service. I would always buy from a franchised disty which has a reputation with customers and the OEM to protect.
