rewind the tape with cam. or?

This seems like the right kind of thread for me to ask this:

Is it o.k if I capture/shoot some stuff using my DVX, then put the tape into a crappy $500 cam to rewind and dump footage onto my computer for editing -- Would it lower the quality of the video? or...well, do anything bad at all?

Also, say that tape has an extra 20 mins. or so left on it, and I pop it back into my DVX for more shooting (after it's been in the $500 cam) - would it harm the DVX heads?

Thanks

as long as you don't mix different brands of tape in the DVX and the $500 camera you should be fine. I would probably go one step further and capture the footage using the $500 camera. Just use the DVX for shooting.

Hmmmm...

Some say do not re-record over a used tape (at $4.95 why bother?). Yes, your heads are being worn every time you rewind, fast forward, record...

By using the same tape, you an run the risk of getting magnetic crap on your heads which can lead to artifacts.

Why not, shoot, capture, dump?

You can get a deck for this (capturing, rewinding, etc) and some have been using a less expensive 3 CCD Camcorder to do the actual capturing

Not sure why you stated another 3ccd camera to record, unless there is a quality difference, which dont think there is

i use a cheapo 400 dollar camera to capture my footage, but now that i have HDV

im kinda screwed.
