European Skiers rock the house

Soooo.....I am sure the sports-guys here will like these shots. It was a production with 4 cams. 2 HVXs, 1 Fx1 and one old JVC GY5000.
I made a clip out of my P2 shots. So everything here is P2-720Pn
We shot for PAL and often on tape, to save hassles, but the framerate stuff was
done on P2 of course. I will put up the full show later.

I am also getting used to Edius still, so be soft on me ;-)
But check the colours. I tried to create one colourset with punchy-clear images and one with a soft 16mm look. I am not sure how it comes after the web compression.

Maybe someone can help me out , too: Notice the sun in the frame. It looks wonderful normally, but there are some shots when it streaks across the frame. That was on the first day and it px%d me off. On the second day I tried to see how to avoid it, but in fact it didn´t happen again. I couldn´t even get the streaks when I wanted to. So something was on my settings the first day was "wrong", but I can´t figure it out. It has nothing to do with Film or Video mode. I can only imagine it needs a very pointish light while on day 2 there was a ever so slight cast in the sky. Any way, I lost a couple great shots there with that lightstreak :(

have fun

Nice.. (I've shot more skiing than I've had hot breakfasts).. the tracking shot was a killer.. just a bummer he sprayed the lens before the first jump.. but it happens more times than not..

Well done..

PS... do you have anything to do with Harry Egger... I competed in Albertville 92' Olympics as a speed skier...

haha, no. Not related. He shares the same name.
I didn´t know Speed Skiing is Olympic.

I didn´t do another follow cam despite the spray, because a one week old HVX shouldn´t do a run on skis at 70 km/h more than once a day..... or was it my old knees shouldn´t do that too often? anyway, take one of the two ;-)
thanks for watching.

I ran a downhill with the HVX 1 month after I got it... 120kph+... I reckon the camera is only a tool and if it needs to be 2cm from water.. then so be it... gotta get the shot...

Speed Skiing was a demonstration sport at Albertville 92' and unfortunately the speed hill in Finland was 600km's from Lillehammer and they wanted the compact games (as opposed to Albertville which was spread everywhere).. also a death during the finals in Albertville (although the Swiss guy was only wax testing prior to the run he collided with a snow cat and died) put allot of negative thoughts in people's minds...

Keep up the good work...

Cheers

yeah you are right. Just a tool. But we crashed one cam that wekend when the crane became unstable so i figured we better keep one healthy.....

IMO speed skiing is crazy. A huge mental challenge and done by more than ski jumping. But no lobby no money no olympic...you know the deal.

BTW: there is a short clip with more angles at www.austrian-open.com

Very slick little site... excellent work...

I'm guessing that you are establishing yourself as the new “Wille Bognor”...

Keep up the good work..

Cheers

I have relinked the clips now with a larger version and with a song I am actually allowed to use. So watch it again. I didn´t re-edit, just swapped songs.

Lez, thanks for checking my site. I know I need to put more English stuff on it.

Willi Bogner is a few steps ahead of me still. But thanks for the compliment. There is not much second unit stuff going on here :( Especially in a winter like this one, but I heard Thredbo had a terrible season also, so the climate hits us all.....

I was lucky there. Just packing up the gear when they shouted GUNFIRE!. Thanks to P2 I was on it in 2 seconds. The light was weird, but it works with them in the sun and the landing in the shade. The zoom-out is a bit rough as i did it manually while talking to someone. But many people like that shot.
