Steadicam Flyer batteries

I am going to buy Steadicam Flyer this week but I am not sure which battery mount do I have to buy. Which battery is the best for Steadicam monitor?

I have a Flyer with Anton Bauer mounts, and it works fine. But either those or the V-mount batteries are just as good, IMHO. The reason to go with one or the other is if you have already standardized on a pro-battery solution for camera/lights/etc.

I have a Steadicam Flyer with Anton Bauer battery mounts too. Even though my camera takes V-mount bricks (I bought a V-mount to Gold Mount adapter), I know I can always borrow an Anton Bauer brick ANYWHERE, if I need it.

I have V mount on my flyer, they are the most popular. Go with the IDX, they really are worth the price. They are very slim and make the flyer easier to fly.

First and formost: If you allready are using one type of battery, then get a matching system.

Seccond: If you arn't allready using a paticular type of battery, then look into what others aroudn you are. Rezfactor makes a brilliant example as to how he can grab an AB brick from pretty much anywhere.

Third: If you arn't tied directly to any battery system, then other features (including cost) will make up the descison.

In the USA, AB is almost garunteed to be available in most places.
PAG is very popular in the UK.
V-mount (Sony, IDX) is probably the most popular on a global scale, like AB, it's available just about anywhere. It's also the cheapest option.

My personal advice would be: Unless you are working with any one system in paticular, go for the V-mount and get the "IDX Starter Kit" to match (You can get the whole lot as a package with the Flyer from most dealers)

I chose V-mount/IDX for my Steadicam Archer because:
  • It's the cheapest system with top-notch performance.
  • I can Stack the batteries if I need to.
  • I work a lot in environments where the V-mount system is used.
  • I have the ability to use the super light & skinny E7 batteries if I want a light rig.
  • I can also easily upgrade to the Steadicam Powercube IDX batteries if I need heavy duty power output.
  • There are loads of accessories available with IDX mounts that I may be buying in the future, such as extra monitors, etc...
But eventually the choice is down to you.

I agree with everything SteadiGuru said. If I were to purchase a Flyer now, I would get the V-Mount batteries. I have the Vmount batteries as most monitors use it, and to power the sound-bag, and while not cheap, they give a better bang for the buck than AB.
