I am no longer in touch with America

I was absolutely 100% sure that Norbit would bomb. I thought it would take 8 million AT BEST. I thought a 4 million dollar opening was more likely.

But 33 million??

I can't believe there are people out there who actually want to see Eddie Murphy in a fat suit playing seven different parts with talking animals.

I'm speechless.

I don't know why you' d be surprised. Playing multiple parts is what Eddie's career was founded on. It's worked for many of the films he's done.

He's surprised because he thinks that if he doesn't like something, the rest of the world will dislike it as well.

I could've told you that Norbit was going to do well, it's Eddie Murphy; he's funny.

Kholi, tsk tsk. Shame on you. That wasn't very nice.

A quick rundown of Eddie Murphy's last five live-action comedies:

Daddy Day Care
Pluto Nash
I Spy
Showtime
Dr. Doolittle 2

Classics of modern cinema?

I actually think Eddie Murphy is funny when he's not desperate and lowering himself to the LCD. Shrek is hilarious and he's the main reason. But Eddie Murphy in a fat suit doing fart jokes?? I'm sorry but I'm not 10 anymore.

even more disturbing? the movie "little man" grossed over 100 million dollars worldwide.

What's classic got to do with a movie succeeding at the box office. Or, what you pre-judge as a failure?

Just don't expect the rest of the world to stay out of the theater because it's not your taste.

Thus the title of this thread. I'm not in touch. And I admit it.

I don't have to like a film in order to have a good idea of whether it's going to do well at the box office or not. Stomp The Yard, Cheaper By the Dozen, and Failure to Launch are all examples of movies that I'd never go to, but I knew they would do well at the box office.

I just figured this movie was obvious and people were tired of Eddie Murphy in a fat suit. It seemed a little desperate, as if he was trying to regurgitate his prior success. Anyway, I was wrong and I admt it! And that's the point of this thread.

I thought exactly the opposite c.g.

Eddie in a fat suit is good like Jim Carrey climbing out of a Rhinos ass.

L M F A O. That scene was as hilarious as the SCARY MOVIE scene with the private parts.

Jim Carrey climbing out of a Rhinos Ass IS FUNNY!

But you won't find Jim Carrey climbing out of an Elephant's ass in any future movies.

C.G. Your first post came off as if there was something wrong with America. See: I CAN'T BELIEVE...

But, now I see where you're going with it.

I am with you C.G. I thought this movie would be a box office bomb. I'll admit that I prejudged it from the trailer alone and that it may very well be much better than I expect, but I too thought that most people would look at this as another Pluto Nash or more like Big Momma's House 3, the Eddie Murphy version. I occasionally try to see if I can gauge whether a movie will do well or not, regardless of whether or not I am interested. I'm over 50%, but sometimes I am way wrong as in this case. I won't see this in the theater but if it's on HBO, maybe.

I remember the first time I saw Carrey in that skit; OMG

My wife and I almost died.

Hasn't Eddie pretty much said that from now on he's only going to do films little kids can watch?

I figured he said that to take the heat off of the bad press associated with picking up a tranny prostitute.:)
