This is a MUST SEE, New Trailer shot on DVX

O.k... O.k.... after 3 days of clicking, cutting and pasting, uploading, downloading and well, you get the picture... I finally updated my lousy website.

It's still not "the bomb" site, but for those of you that have seen the old one and screamed at me, you'll like what I did to it.

A little more modern looking...... go easy on me, it took me forever.... There are lots of screen shots from the DVX100a for those interested....(35 shots in all) None have any color correction, neither does the trailer, so go easy there as well.....

New York in November!

I enjoyed it. When will it see home release? I'd be interested in picking up a copy. Good trailer. A little long still yet, I believe, but hell anymore with most short hollywood trailers you dunno what you're goin to see. Congrats and good luck if you take it to anymore fests.

Sorry. Don´t like your website. Trailer ok but not a real must have.
Keep on!

adde.

Thanks Mankin... we're shopping it around now looking for a rep. ( an honest rep ) ahahahha.... like trying to find an ice cube in a jacuzzi.

I know you put a lot of time into your website, but you need to make it better. In this day and age, professional websites are expected. Period. And this one looks like it's stuck in 1994. If you want people to take your movie more seriously, hire some college student who understands site design. It'll go a long way. Trust me.

As for the trailer, there's a sweetness to it that I like. But like Adde said, it still doesn't scream "must-have". The production value leaves a bit to be desired. It's not bad but it's not great either.

I wish I could tell you what was missing, but I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it is that "shot on digital video" amateur feeling that usually implies a sub-par story and sub-par movie. I'm not saying that's what your movie is, but since so many before it have befallen this fate, I guess since the lighting and shot selection weren't anything extrordinary, I just assumed this movie would be the same. Like you said, maybe some color correction will help that (I don't know if I would post a trailer without color correcton btw. Why not take the extra day or two and make sure it's perfect?)

Anyway, like I said before. It does have a sweetness to it. And maybe that permeates the entire movie. I wish you luck. Keep us updated on its release.

EDIT: I just went back and reread the thread. You've heard a ton about the website so I'm sorry for repeating that. But it bares repeating. Promotion is half the game in this day and age. You take the time to go to sites and post your work and post your screening times, etc. Why not take the time, find a cheap web designer, pay him a little money, and get something professional looking. I know you hate negative comments so let me explain that I am not being negative. It's just that your response to people's criticisms about your website seem to be, "Oh well, I'm just a filmmaker." On this site, you have people who actually understand why a filmmaker's site might not be up to par with their movie. In the real world, if you have someone visit that site, most of them won't even look at the trailer. They'll just assume it's trash. So let me say again. Stop working on it yourself. Get someone who knows what they're doing. Just like you got your actors. Just like you got your D.P., gaffer, sound guy, etc. Get someone who knows that craft, cause it's just as important as all those other things.

Oh, and since you're a positive guy (which is obviously one of your strengths) who doesn't really like criticism, for future reference you should put in your opening post that you're not looking for critique. You just want people to watch or only give positive feedback. People in this forum are respectful enough to give you that courtesy. I noticed you put "your thoughts are welcome". Well then, you better be ready for all kinds of thoughts. :)

It pleases me to no end that everybody trashes the website, but not the trailer.
I love it. I could care less about the website. The website is not being used to promote the film. "The film" is being used to promote the film. I'm not into "hype" and having a flashy website. You could have the BEST website in town, but if your feature film sucks, who cares. My film speaks for itself, that's why I don't care about the site. All film websites look the same now anyway. The same flash intro, then it locks on a few images, with a few choices... then they hit you with the trailer. Big deal. I like it simple. Log on... click here, and see the trailer. That's all. Just a simple trailer.

I do appreciate all comments, and I'm not upset. I just find it strange that this is a film website, and people seem to be so concerened with "website design" and not the film or trailer itself. I know the website sucks, but as I said, I don't care. I'm more concerened with the trailer and how people feel about watching it.

I leave the promotion to the distributors and the studio. I'm just a filmmaker.... and who knows, maybe by summer they'll make me a nice website with lots of gimmicks and flash... but hey, it still all comes down to the movie. Substance over flash. (no pun intended.)

p.s. "You can film a beautiful woman on a crappy old camera, with b/w film... and she'll still be beautiful..... and you can film an ugly woman on 70mm hi def, hi color, state of the art film, and she'll still be ugly. Art doesn't matter what it's shot on, that's why it's called art, and that's what film is." Darryl Abbinante

this movie looks AWESOME! It looks like a personal story for the most part!

This is a long thread & I have a touch off ADD & illiteracy, so if this question has been answered I apologize, but is this movie going to be available on DVD soon?

ps I'm a web designer by trade & I find a lot of flashy websites annoying, yours is to the point, so no worries my man!

A little kindness, a little not-kindness.

I didn't really dig the trailer. It's too long and parts are cliched, trite and overdone. The acting seemed a little amateurish in places, but I'd still check this movie out. Seems like something I'd go see.

The website doesn't scream professional. I think if you cut the trailer time in half and left out the "tea and crumpets" british line as to reference a wedding... which makes zero sense... as arbitrary as that is you might as well reference Elvis or Aliens... then it would be better... only my opinion of course.

I know how hard and how long it takes to create a feature so I give you kudos for doing it. Most can't, most will never be able to. Some CC would go a long way... crush the blacks and some tweaks.

I liked the line about nintendo, but get a new website. Oh also.... "Will you go to lunch!!!" The only other movie I've heard that in is Glengarry Glen Ross... so maybe it's from that... if so... very cool.

I'm no genius and I'll self deprecate until christmas... so i really get a kick out of people who think they're gifts-to-the-world. No offense Darryl or should I say PimpDaddy... but im quite sure I'd enjoy your company.

Thank you Ken for the nice post. If all goes well, out on dvd by late summer / fall. Still looking for the "right" rep. So many sharks out there in Indyland. Thanks for understanding the web design also. It's mearly used as a business card, simple and to the point.

Thank you also aurantaurant, yep, Glengarry Glen Ross. I love that line... many Indy flics have used or stolen lines (or entire scenes) from other flics out of pure respect. We've slipped in a couple lines from other movies just for the movie buffs in the audience... nothing distracting to the plot line, but very creative.

Thanks for stopping by...

Very nice trailer, enjoyed the graphics between cuts...maybe alittle too long in the middle, uncertain whether the dialogue scene near the end of guys on stairs adds to your trailer. But I am very excited to see your movie. Congratulations on wonderful work. Good luck.

You advertise it as not being a cliched by saying "no explosions, no cgi" characters, etc., but those are only certain types of cliches, and from the looks of it this film is filled with a different type of cliche: that of the romantic comedy college story. I'd try not to advertise it as much on it's originality or "newness," because it doesn't seem to have a lot of that (from what I see). Also the trailer seems to go on way too long. I think if you showed less I'd have been more interested in seeing this.

It looks good to me ''for it to be just raw footage with know color correction.Good job I hope you win.
