Music video: DVX100 + Mini35 + haze

Very nicely done.

Although the singer reminded me of the caveman from the Geico commercials.

Wow very clean looking video! The way you shot it really matched the peaceful/calmness of the song. I really liked the colors, too.

Is it just me or does the video seem a bit squished vertically?

KiN.

Man, that looks great. Beautiful music video. What lenses did you use with the Mini35?

Hey Patryk,
Great job man! Can you let us in on your DVX settings your vids from the DVX always have the nicest colours so close to film. Do you do a lot of colour correction on the vids. Your Pacman vid, Marcus webisodes, music clips etc they are awesome. Obvioulsy you have some mad lighting skills, but can you let us in on any secrets to your look
Cheers

Yeah, she is so much prettier than him. But the photography is great.

Bien hecho. Que tengas éxito.

Yeah, yo know i don't pick who to work with...

tatsuo, you have to be more specific as most of this stuff is simply light increasing the contrast and warming up midtones and highlight to emulated Kodak film stock 00 it looks like most video cameras are closer to Fuji's film stock with redish hues.

Did you do any color grading in post production? Everything is vibrant and organic. How did you light your interiors? Specifically the interior without the window...

The video was shot with DVX100 + mini35 (which is a ***** to hand held) + a nice set of 35mm lenses. I knew we'll have mostly outside shots so plenty of light which is crucial as with camera zoomed in (f2.8) adapter (f2) and fast lens (f1.4) you are shooting at f6 even though the lens is wide open at f1.4.

The interiors without windows were lit with kinos and some thungsten units to spice up thing here and there and all the practicals were on dimmers.

The interiors with windows we created patterns on the windows with gaffer's tape and hazed the whole space to create those shafts of light.

The video was relatively light on color correction just warming up the imge with 3-way cc and overlaying gradients (feathered mask) with different color dominance.

That's about it.

Can you share with us the best way to determine the overall f-stop with an adaptor? Is there a formula?

Love it, beautiful work. The only one thing I don't understand were those blue-green circular grads, they were a bit too noticible in my opinion, but that might be coming from the quicktime compression as well... The interior shots reminded me of "flash Dance" :)

Nice work.

no, all there is is best guess. that is since you are shooting through camera's lens then your f stop is already f2.8. thenthough simple estimation you discover that the adapter eats up about 2 stops. So 2.8 + 2 + 1.4 (lens) is about f6.

In other words for light sensitive scenarios it's best to use cameras with removable lenses JVC or Canon because then you "save" 2.8 stop.

wow!!!!!! i'm blown away man.....just beatiful.....was the light beaming throught the windows simply daylight? looked like you had a 20k or something out there...lol.

Well, yeah to replicate similar effect would cost us extra $2000-3000 to get crane 20k and a geny to power that ****. We did have some small HMIs but when i saw the lighting in that space and figured out that the sun will bathe the space throughout whole day i decided to impress everyone with my "minimal" lighting skills. SO i just created some window patterns hazed up the space and said we are ready to shoot...
