UKP - an Ignatius Fischer motion picture

Great job dude. I was laughing the whole time. That potty mouth reminded me of my x wife when we used to fight. he he.

Simple production but great story and acting.

hahaha! That was awesome! What a *****!!!

Great job on your film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The performances were great. And I like the camera work, especially in the kitchen. Great lighting here.

I like your use of reflections in the microwave and the window, though at times I felt that you were sacrificing good framing just to keep the reflections. (I felt that you could have started on a reflection and then moved to "properly" place an actor in the frame. But this is just my own preference.)

Oh! I love the camera work on the shot of the woman coming down the hallway. Very nicely done. Very smooth.

Great job. The actors were great. And a great ending! Nice "twist."

nice one, enjoyed this although the mouth movements didn't match the heard words. Love the camera work and the story.
Thank you.

I just wanted to thank everyone who's left critiques of UKP, they are all much appreciated. I do agree that it's a vignette more than a complete story, although I did try to get a "conflict and resolution" in some form in there. I do very poorly with super short stories, and usually end up (case in point) with a tiny cross-section of someone's larger story. I like the idea of just peeking in for a moment or two on people, seeing where they're at and then moving on, and that seems to be developing into my "storytelling style". I think big stories are the exact same, we just feel more satisfied at the end of a larger story because we were able to hang out longer and get to know the characters better. But all large stories continue after the end credits don't they? Haha, that's always my feeling - so what happens next?

Anyway, thanks for watching and taking the time to respond. I've watched all the fest entries and am trying to provide decent critiques when I can, there are a lot of great little flicks in this fest and we've had a great time watching and discussing them.

Nice !

Drama/comedy.

Good acting, interesting writing, and above all entertaining.

My only query would be is do you need the getting high scene at the end? For me, the natural conclusion to this flick was her last line about firing him. Anyway, I guess the greatest compliment I can give is I’d like to see more of these characters.

Ps – what’s wrong with masturbating online ? hold on a sec…ahhhhh.

UKP - review

Really like the beginning as it keeps my attention and sets up for the rest of the movie. I love the dichotomy of the ‘aggressive’ energy and ‘passive’ energy between the two characters and reflected in the editing as well.

When you catch a glimpse of the lady smiling at the very beginning, it seemed like an 'outtake', kind of like she was smiling because she was on camera (I'm sure that was not the intent).

Favorite moving shots: were through the hallway at about TC0:42

Thank you for following the 'Eric' rule. I found that there were a number of movies that did not. Even if they were made during the time period, I appreciate those that made a point of including the 'Eric' rule in their movie.

The lighting is fantastic. I really like the light and shadows when she is moving through the hallway.

The line about maybe a '747 landed on the freeway' (obviously sarcastic), any reference to the famous short entitled ‘747’ about the plane that lands on the freeway in Southern California?

I also appreciate that you had a lot of great dialog (really good writing) and the editing created a real nice pace so that we weren't watching 'talking heads'.

My favorite acting was when he sets the glass down before pouring the wine at about TC1:40 and I love the shots with the reflections in the kitchen window!

I thought the actress was a little over the top. She seems theatrically trained, but I really liked the actor. I believe that he expressed a lot without using words.

Favorite shots: TC5:50, and TC1:50 seems to exaggerate the ‘divide’ between them.

I really like the use of the handheld and close up style. It seems a little voyeuristic and much like the '24' style of shooting in one location. It made the viewing experience more intimate and un-comfortable.

Great job my friend. High scores for lighting, story, camera, acting and pace. I never lost interest while watching this movie and consider this in my top 5.

Great dialogue. I love the witty banter. The male lead was great as was the female. The two played as if they had been a bickering couple for years. So honest with each other. The writing was excellent. "I don't even know where the cum goes." Classic. You dared to be shocking but in a real world sense. I could see many a couple having this same conversation.

It was shot well. I liked the use of handheld camera work. Not over the top but just enough. I really liked the cut to and from Wyatt and what he was doing with the wine bottle. The shots with reflections were a real nice touch. Using the most of your space. There were a few cuts that jumped from two shot with the counter to the other side and up at Wyatt. It was a bit jarring but not to bad. If anything it may have set up that angle for when they look to the door when Eric finally arrives.

I would have preferred the guy not be a junky. I think you needed someone to side with and it kind off ruined his character for me. But maybe that was the point. They are two people I could love to hate. I thought the last sequence was beautifully done though.

I watched this a couple of times and I really dug how info that seemed random at first watch wasn't really random at all. Make sure that spoon is nice and clean. Nicely done.

I really liked this short and hope to see more of you work in the future. Give me some more people I can love to hate. Good work.

I really enjoyed this film. I really like how she needed a fix. I was having a hard time believing how passive this guy was but then it made perfect since. I think it was very clever and well done.

I've made it a habit of not reading the reviews for a movie before I have a chance to review and respond.

There seemed to be some question as to the 'story' and 'what was going on'. I totally got it.

Tell me if this is right. They are a couple (married or not). They work together. She's 'wired' for some reason. He remains calm as she rants (it's his character). He's used to it. They're waiting for ERIC! Eric arrives. She gets her fix. Now... everything is OK. And he escapes too.

For me, it starts out as 'what is she so wired about' and the hook is 'where's Eric!'. Ding Dong. Pay off. I would say it had a beginning, middle, and end. She walks into the kitchen (beginning), she rants and yells in the kitchen (middle), she leaves the kitchen (end).

I also noticed how she is labeled (appropriately) as a 'bi*ch'. Assuming that was how she was supposed to play the part. If she knows what people are saying here about the character, does it bother her? Or did she do her job?

Another 2 cents.

Hi RobertE - thanks a ton for the review, I'm stoked to be in your top 5! I think you hit everything on the head when summing up the story. I also understand why people are kind of bothered by Wyatt's end game, but that was intentional. In the "director's cut", whcih will run approximately a minute longer, I think I can show her clinical edginess a bit better and I do want Wyatt to take part of the blame - this short is about two people you may not like, not one ***** and a poor sap, haha. In fact, I'm sorely disappointed I never got her name mentioned in the framework of the dialogue at all - her name is Felicia. And in a sequel, she might turn out to be someone you rooted for! One never knows ...

Hi Jon, thanks for your review as well, much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The camera work is a little on the shaky side for me, but my intention behind the scenes on this one was specifically to do a hand-held movie so that I could move as fast as possible. The kitchen is such a cool and unique shape and with that big island, it's PRIME for dolly shots and whatnot, so maybe I can go back and shoot something else. Maybe a spy flick! Haha. I really appreciate the fact that YOU appreciated all the "set up" things, all the little random things that maybe weren't so random - that's an example of something I planned that worked out.

David - thank you for the review! Ajar is turning out to be one of my favorites of the fest, that shot from inside the cupboard with the gun and bullet and pills is just priceless.

And Robert again - I don't think Mary (the actress) surfs the web much, so I don't think she'll see any of this, but if she does, I think she'd get a kick out of being the *****. She played the part as directed and written, so any short-comings from her character lie on my shoulders. I agree with most people's critiques of her performance, but it's not her performance that is one-note, it's her character. Interesting side note: she and Ivan didn't even met each other until about 30 minutes before shooting, and she didn't even see the screenplay until two days before shooting (not through lack of trying, mind you)!

hullo.

i probably shouldnt be here, but i wanted to check out some of the other shorts.

....... i cant find them.

Deadpan - good to see you here. I will get you a copy of the longer cut as soon as I, uh, cut it. Yes, I thought aptly as well, and everyone digs your performance, my friend. Enjoy the other flicks.

We almost have the whole cast and crew here now.

Wow, I have to say I would have killed that B&*&^ in the first 30 seconds. But the end got me laughing really hard. Nice payoff.

I think it might have been a little more powerful though if the conversation had been more focused and less meandering over so many subjects.

And the handheld seems a tad overused and unmotivated. I mean those macro shots where you are SUPER close in there and moving around a lot.

You get an award for making me hate a fictional character... I think I would have been pretty cool if he would have walked over there and slapped her head into the counter top!:)
