Any P2 card readers yet?

I remember reading some months back that someone was developing a card reader for P2. Any more news on this, or any card reader for that matter? Firewire or USB?

It's more than a bit frustrating that there are no card readers available for P2... For all the potential that P2 represents, the hardware development has fallen far short.
:-( Grrrrrr.

P2Log and P2 Log Pro are software readers for P2 cards on the Mac, if that is what you meant. A search for those terms should find several threads.

Yes,
I saw recently a post about it, but I didn't bookmark it.. do a search for express34 adapter here at DVXuser....

hope can help

There is an ExpressCard 34 to PCMCIA adapter under development.
You can check it out here:

http://www.duel-systems.com/products/adapters.aspx

I bother them constantly and they always reply quickly but will not come out even with the tentative release date. The last such message I got was on Jan. 29: "Sorry, we have not set a formal release date yet." I wasn't able to get even the approximate pricing from them either. If anyone has any insider information please share it!

It is annoying that it takes so long for something so obviously needed. And as far as I know, they are the only ones developing such an adapter.

Thanks folks. I'm just looking for a single card reader, so the Panny one is out- not to mention the price. ouch. The duel system one looks like it coud be the hot ticket at either $50 or $119. I'm puzzled as to why something like this hasn't already been introduced on the market.... hurry, hurry , hurry .

Thanks again

Andrew,

I'm on a Mac, and I'm looking for something in the field to be used with my Powerbook, any chance that item can be adapted and configured for my application? Thanks

Wouldn't it be possible for a cable to run from your PCI card to a drive bay adapter that would be accessible from the front of a PC?

I'm afraid it's not that easy. Look for an announcement from us on this issue AFTER the CinePorter is released.

So no Mac support on the spec-comm card is planned?

It would be nice to get a response

Thanks

I'm sorry David we must have missed this thread. To answer your question, we didn't write the driver for windows, it comes with it. There is not enough interest in this adapter to write the driver for MAC. Our next product will have MAC support.

I hope this helps,

Great.

But can we have a hint?

Or perhaps a green sheet covering part of it?

:)

OK, It's not really a secret, I just don't want to have everybody in an uproar because it's taking "too long." The next project on the list after the CinePorter ships is a one or two slot front mounted CardBus adapter. 3.5" drive bay with a 2' cable to a PCI card. About $400 list. All the extension technology is already developed for the CinePorter, we just have to design the product. No time right now, because all the development time is going into the CinePorter. :)

Wow, that is good news.

Where do I sign up as a tester?

Anyway, thanks David.

I can put you on the list, but we have a pretty stringent Beta test agreement that you have to sign. You can email me for the details.
