Hey deep, just noticed your banner in our thread, and it certainly caught my eye. I must admit that I'm VERY curious to see how this will turn out, if you've only spent 4 hours on shooting & editing it ... so it will be one on my watch list for sure.

Yes me too!

Congratulations on your first short film! I wish you the very best. Looking forward to seeing your work.

Very interesting poster - - great composition to fit what might otherwise be too much "data" into one poster.

I asked on our thread in response to your post, but - - where are you in Texas? For obvious reasons (I am, after all, your diplomatic representative) I am interested.

And -- I believe you are headed to India soon - - where?

Tea, Mountains, and Texas

Tea, Mountains, and Texas

Make sure you pick up some pure Darjeeling and send some to me at the Texas Embassy in North Carolina (I'm in NC now, but grew up in Dallas, Houston...might be returning to TX for Grad School).

India trip sounds like a blast. My brother was just in Mumbai - but I second the suggestion that you take some hi-res photos of Ganges and Himalaya stuff. I heard that Abner Ravenwood was up in the Himalayas recently...but maybe that was Nepal?

4 Hours wow! Did you plan a lot to accomplish that, shot only what you absolutely needed? I like your first poster, it reminds me of some kinda of proof sheet that is aching to be cut out.

One of our ideas for this fest involved a man and a gun so I'm eager to see what you did with this concept. Good luck with the competition.

That last sound was pretty startling. Sounded like the gun punched him. Might want to look into more sounds to replace that one.

Looks like a one-man show. Congrats on completing your first short.

Thanks man...
I didnt find a good sound for that - true... will try to fix it

yes, congrats on a one man show, i too did a one man show for this fest.

maybe work in some photos of his family, of his kid, or even better work in a bunch of clips of his family, of him interacting with them ,and since he is obviously depressed, of him withdrawing from them, show something of his life other than him just writing about it. i didnt see any sort of conflict in the man while he was writing his letter. but i guess he did already pick his choice. maybe show him making that choice then, show the conflict within him. i know you were probably limited on what you could show being a one man crew, but you can still show a lot!
show him sift in his chair, get up and move around in the room. maybe slur around a bit, he is drinking quite a bit, maybe even drop the bullets while he was filling the chambers, maybe show him slur his writing, smudge it, or even write so hard the pen goes through the paper like a knife? you won't even have to show the ending, let people wonder if he did or not, but first let people care about whether he did or not. i couldn't get any sort of investment into caring about him one way or the other. make me not like him, or even hate him for wanting to walk away from his family, or make me root for him not to do it.
some ideas for you... but again, good job on finishing one! i think this is the hardest part, to make the commitment to do it. now making it better is the fun part, no?

p.s. what did you think of mine? me v. you?
let me know! hoz

One man show? well done.

That was like poetry in motion... I enjoyed most of it... I found myself fast-forwarding a bit to pick what was about to come. I think you did a good job for a 4hrs production. After all what I saw was a four hour production... not a bad thing... just simple... which I think works well for what you are doing here.

At the beginning, I think he is going to commit suicide.. so that was kind of predictable... with the alcohol and gun and the writing... but then he sounds so happy "I love my family..." "I love my life" and the we learn all this thing about him and then. The End. I thought for a second that he was actually going to hunt after someone or he was just going to get creative with the gun an alcohol.

I felt it was too long. If the story has been simplified it would have been better. I think you nailed it visually... you see? major features have successfully conditioned us to expect grandly choreographed drama whenever a gun is presented in this situation.... you are so close to having a stellar short.

the opening scene's camera movement is a little bit too jerky for me.

the intro music sounds too cheesy, like the beginning of a computer game. and his VO comes across as very fake.

so far this looks like a bad commercial for a whisky company.

2 minutes into this, and i realize why i don't buy it so far: the music. it is so bad and completely inappropriate. no music would have worked much better.

the sucking-on-my-cigar scenes are tooooooo long.

ok dude, are those blanks or real bullets? that's kinda dangerous eh?

nice. it's finally over. i was getting really sick of the music.

didn't think the music suited the situation, i know that if i were gonna shooot meself i certainly wouldn't pick that, maybe that's why he shot himself, didn't know how to turn the music off :?
Sorry!
couldn't understand what the guy was saying some of the time either, don't know if it was the distraction of the music or what.
This didn't do it for me.
Thank you.
