To anyone who thinks it would be cool to work at a TV station...

Think again.
It is 8:45PM and I'm still at work.

Want the hear the best part?
I'll have to come in this weekend.

Just wanted to complain.

If you weren't so good at what you do, you wouldn't have to worry about that.

Point taken....but If I were as good as I should be I wouldn't still be here
(and i don't just mean tonight)

That's me...always lookin at the bright side of life.

Aah, the question is: what do you *do* and what are they *paying* you to be there? Only then can you judge if it's woth it. :)

- Mikko ... also at work. At a TV Station.

8:45pm? that ain't nuthin...:) try 6am -2pm on Sunday mornings
and 4pm-12am weekdays... yes it does suck if your union is weak
and the company wants to cut ur benefits

ahh the bigger question is how fast is your intArnets connection at work...
thank god for slow news days!!

hey, at least those are still 8 hour shifts....
I guess I should have clarified that I'd been there since 8:30am.

And ...sadly...I'm in the office now.
Came back to make sure an upload to our automation system completed successfully.
(of course I had to get on here, just for a minute)

By the way - I've done the early morning thing - my first job in radio was running the board during the Stern show (not in New York, an affilate station - so it was nothing cool). Had to be at the office at 4:30am. Ugh. You try doing that when you live with 4 friends who all stay up until 2am.
Those were the days...

I do not mind doing interesting weekend overtime shifts ever now and then...

Saturday: 150% pay
Sunday: 350% pay...

Buys a lot of toys...

My first real video job was a 4 1/2 year stint as a camera operator for a local CBS affiliate from 1987 to 1991. Back then, things were very different as we did several live events such as: Easter Seals and MDA telethons, marathons, bike races, minor league baseball games, etc.

There were also several recorded productions such as commercial shoots in studio B as well as remote shoots -- high end clients recorded on our Nagra 1" machine attached to an Ikegami 79A.

We didn't sit around bored. :)

These days, most of those things are farmed-out to production facilities/companies like Cox Communications, etc.
