Envision & RebeccaD Present "Where Silence Falls"

I don't know, why don't you ask them in their thread, lol?

I've rec'd confirmation from Larry that ours is in, so Rebecca & I are extremely relieved.

Sweet! I am glad you made it.
Envision, I just noticed you are from Vancouver... I was there on September I stayed on David in downtown. Where are you from there?

Ah, you may be having MY Vancouver confused with the Vancouver up north, meaning Vancouver, BC. I'm in Vancouver, Washington, just across the river from Portland, Oregon. Folks always get the two confused. :)

Vancouver B.C. rocks too, but I do love where I live.

Yes it does. Shahna & I had a blast up there the last time we were there ... TONS of stuff to do, and a gorgeous city.

LOL. I saw it on a shirt once at the mall here (in Vancouver, WA), and thought it was funny ... so I used it for my location.

Shawn Nelson asked a question about what ended up being ADR'd in the film. Nothing. Any ADR that we did do, I opted not to use. The parts where I was initially convinced we would have to have ADR were the emotional parts, where voices were raised. A little tweaking on my end with levels & filters, and I was able to make the audio work ... and it works quite well, in the end, I believe. The hardest part was just hand sync'ing all of the audio clips, since there was no slate reference to know what I was trying to sync, as well as no clapper to sync to.

Anyway, just for those of you who will be watching the film, now you know. :)

Norm, great job on the post. I didn't hear any distortion at all, and I listened to it on a pair of $300 headphones. The one place i knew where to listen for....Rebecca's natural crack in her voice conceals any possible distortion. Rebecca did such a kick ass job on that take it's extra good no ADR was used.

Thanks, Shawn, on the kudos for the post. I don't consider myself a master at sound work/design, but I at least have a picky enough ear that I won't stop until I feel it's the best it can be.

Hey Norm, you didn't use a slate at all?

What's a slate? :cheesy: KIDDING! Absolutely we slated each & every take ... problem was that I wasn't able to sync the Compact Flash recorded sound (similar to a DAT recorder, in that it's not locked to the picture), until AFTER we had the locked edit together, which means there were no visible slates in the image to tell me what scene was what (i.e. which angle), no clapper to sync to, etc.

Live & learn. Ideally I WOULD have sync'd to the picture first, but there were some serious editing issues upfront & lots of time lost.

Glad to see you made it in. I finally caught up with your thread and it sounds like you had a hell of a time in post. Ours was pretty bad but yours takes the cake. This whole process is "Live and Learn" but that's why I love doing it. I'm all ready aching to kill myself again for the next Fest and this one isn't even done yet:cheesy:

Can't wait to see this movie.

I know what you mean, Jeremy. My wife is REALLY encouraging me to sit the next one out ... hopefully it'll be a genre that holds zero interest for me. Otherwise, I'm not sure I'll be able to stay away, even though I've got a new day job that's demanding more & more of my attention, as well as a feature we're trying to get off the ground.

Ah, ok... I though you were giving new meaning to the term "guerilla filmmaking" :cheesy: So how did you like using an external audio recording device verses in camera? I'm assuming that's what you did. Did it give you better quality or something?
