Envision & RebeccaD Present "Where Silence Falls"

I'll let you be the judge of that when you see the film ... although I'll clearly state that Rebecca stole the show.

Once the films are up, I'm going to post the raw clip of her take where she just nailed it with emotion. I want to show it because the camera is on her the entire time, vs. in the film where we had to cut back to my character's expressions, etc. You will all get absolute chills, if not full on tears.

Yeah, you definitely should... I'd like to see that... :)

Yeah, everyone will love it, I'm sure. I just don't want any of you trying to steal her away from my productions. I discovered her, so she's technically on contract with Envision Entertainment ... for life.

AVI render finished up a little earlier than it said it would, so I'm now beginning the H.264 conversion. HOPE it looks good, though I know I'll be disappointed with it until we can get it back to a true 23.98 frame rate, the way we shot it ... man, there is such a HUGE difference between the two, once you get used to what you're looking at.

Agreed Norm... still stoked to see it though! I was talking with my co-worker Brad (director/writer) about Trinity River tonight... told him I was super stoked about it... Amazing script, etc :) Really looking forward to this one Norm!

UPDATE: Pushing 1:30am, and the QT conversion took FOREVER (about 1.5 hours). I did it at the High/Broadband rate of 672kb/second with the Apple Lossless audio compression (480x264 screen ratio), but the stinkin' thing came in at 47.7MB .... 7.7MB too large for festival rules.

I've gone ahead & started another render now at 500kb/sec, which should hopefully get it below 40MB without sacrificing too much quality. At least it looked & sounded pretty good, although I'm doing the default AAC audio compression on this one.

I'm going to go ahead & hit the hay in about 30+ minutes if it looks like it'll take too much longer, hope it's under 40MB when I wake up, and upload it ASAP ... also hoping they allow it through, considering the circumstances.

Then tomorrow I'll work on getting the DVD files rendered & up separately.

way to go norm!! Pulling it in at last minute! I keep waiting till they come out with a post that says... "Ha! fooled you. Deadline is actually next weekend." :)

looking forward to seeing the finished film!

Hey Justin, I had Rebecca stop by today to listen to the final cuts you sent me ... she did the same thing I did when hearing that new opening; absolute ear to ear grin! It's stinkin' perfect for what we were wanting, and then some!

I also used the new ending you sent, so I spliced/blended the drafts together. Once we get the master file fixed back to 23.98, I'll see about extending the titles as well as a credit roll at the end with you.

UPDATE: First render to QT was 47.7MB ... little too big. Stripped it down to 500kb/sec (from the 672kb/sec), and now it's only 27.4MB .... Since it looked pretty good at that, I should be fine with it, right?

Nah. Since we still have a few hours of buffer time I found out about, I'm going to give it a final render at 580kb/sec, hoping it stays JUST under 40MB, and go with a little larger size as well at 640x352. Worst case, I've got the smaller file to fall back to.

Final render for the night as I crash for a few. G'Night all.

Norm, one more thing, when we did Bloody Mary, I found that a big factor - bigger than I thought - was the sound. We did an H264 at 500 400X225, but tweaked the sound down to 24 or 22, and that got us in the limit. However, the limit was 50Mb last time, no?

Anyway, it might help you too.

Hey Norm, when you come around, let us all know how you made out! I'm dying to know! (oh, the drama of dramafest!)

Rebecca, Congratulations with your film here. I bet you couldn't have teamed up with a better guy to make this film. (what a trooper!) Have you produced other films before or is this your first?

Very excited to see it!

YES! Sound is the BIG issue! I do mine at 22 all the time.

This is my first attempt at co-producing and writing. Hats off to Norm, though on this one!!

Thanks, Mark, I'd heard the audio was a big issue, so that's why I did the first render with the Apple Lossless audio, because I saw Brandon rave about it in the TTN thread as best compression to sound ratio ... but, I think it's actually a lot larger than going with AAC.

Anyway, I even have the last render at 575kb/second, 640x352, AAC audio at 128bit rate, and the thing is STILL only 30MB. Since I want to squeeze as much data rate into this as possible, especially if I'm going with a larger size, I'm doing ONE LAST render at the default of 672kb/second and see if it's still under 40MB. If not, I've got the 30MB as a fall back, and either way will be able to submit it before the noon deadline.

Now, while that's rendering, I really do have to hit the gym to meet Dave (Rebecca's hubby), as well as drop a presentation off at my daughter's school, because she forgot it at home this morning.

With approx 5 hours of sleep, I'm tired, but believe me ... I've operated on FAR less & was able to make it through the day, so I can say that today is pretty good so far.

Oh, and for the most part the CC turned out quite nice ... until the end there are some spots that I'm not happy with, but should be taken care of when we're working in native Mac/FCP on the master file.

:( Sorry for misguiding your render process...:lipsrseal

Hey, Congrats!!!

(I think that will officially make TTN the last film to upload!)

Good job, Norm!

You can breath now, Rebecca!

Congrats guys!
