Victoria, British Columbia.

I looked at your video and here are some comments.

1. Make sure the image stabilizer is on. Some of your shots are so shaky, it looks like you were shooting in a magnitude 8 earthquake.
2. In my opinion, the music did not suit your piece at all. This did not help the flow because the music suggested something to me that the visual did not convey.
3. Your shots are all over the place. There is no sense in them. If you are going to record some sort of journey, at least be conscious of some kind of logical order. As it is right now, you are (literally) bouncing the viewer all over the place.
4. I'm sorry, but most of your shots were just plain badly composed and you chose to focus on the oddest of things. For instance, the girl on the bed, you are focussing on her knee? Maybe that shot should have been on the cutting room floor? Find something interesting in what you are shooting. It seems to me that you are just randomnly pointing the camera and pressing record.
5. I'm not sure why you chose to take these kinds of shots with a 35mm adapter. Using these adapters requires a lot of control over contrast and distance of objects as well as resolution issues. You would have been better served just shooting this kind of footage with the stock lens.
6. If you were just testing the adapter, choose more controlled shots that show off its strengths rather than its weaknesses.

Try to make sense of your footage before you commit an edit. Take some time to really think about what music you want to use because it sets the tone for the audience. Don't just take a cool piece of music and use it as a directionless aural backdrop.

This is as straight as I can be about this. It's just my humble opinion. Keep practising and learning.

Jon Starr, yes, it was a one-day family trip. disjecta, that is the kind of critique i'm looking for. I know it's shakey, I had no room from my tripod, but it's still no excuse. It wasn't exactly a "test" it's more of me still trying to learn, and this coming out of it.
Thanks

Hey,

How did you get the footage to look so filmic? The first few seconds looked as if it was shot on an original DVX100.

Very cool. Nice job. Where I do agree the shots could've been nicely composed I did feel the music suited the feel you probably were going for.

For the most part I really liked it.

Chris

hey adoyle,

DON'T use the in-camera image stabilizer when you're shooting with the Letus. The vibration of the ground glass will make your image all screwy.

I've lived in Vancouver for 3 years and still haven't made my way to Victoria. Heard it was beautiful there.

Not sure how everyone else viewed this But the colour had that old faded look but I liked it .
The music I thought went well with this piece .
In some areas I thought you focused to long on some shots ..eg horse , birds, maybe one shot of each and one or two shots made no sense .
Victoria looks so beautiful I would have loved to see some shots of those old buildings .
I liked this short despite the few issues . keep trying and have a look at
disjecta vbmenu_register("postmenu_843909", true); films he really does nice work.
