A BIG tip for the redrock users

Hello guys and gals...I have been using the redrock, and finding as I am sure most of you have that the back focus thing is just a ***** dealing with. so, guess what..easy simple FREE solution, set your zoom, gaff tape down your focus and zoom and hit the auto focus button and hold it for 5 sec as it hunts down PERFECT focus for your back focus! that easy! oh you gotta have your GG ON and spinning and you should have your 35mm lens as close to focused on a far away object as you can get it by eye!

does that help anyone ??

stay tuned for a new batch of mobijokes.tv work!

do it with the GG off, and no lens. the Autofocus will focus on the grain of the GG. make sure the GG is off. its NOT reliable if the lens is on and the GG is running. it will make mistakes. i have tested it to DEATH.

mine never ever makes mistakes
AND if the GG is OFF you will focus on a portion of the disk that may be further away from the camera then the other side of the disk, bad idea, I have built my own adapter - that was my testing ground

I always use AF to set the ground grass focus. If the adapter is properly engineered and the plane of the ground glass is equidistant from the lens, Timur's method works great.

Recently I've taken to just focusing with the 35mm lens as best I can, then popping on AF to see what it suggests. I've tested quite a bit and I believe this is a reliable way to go. However good you can get the focus with the ground glass, the AF will resolve the "backfocus" as best as possible.

hmm.....this tread brings to mention a big dilemma that I've been having.

I've used a Letus35 flip before, while I definitely know how much to zoom, I'm not sure how much to focus on the GG.

Because of the thickness of the glass (even though it's minute) I have no idea if I'm focusing on the GG side that's nearest to the stock lens, in the middle or near the prime lens.

Anyone has a solution to that?

on the SGpro, only the front surface of the GG is textured. its a piece of optical acrylic, so the "gg" is only a thousanth of a mm thick. its like a wafer thin surface. is the M2 gg a textured mateiral? like, made of a frosted material?
