Hi Everyone.

Here in Canada, Panasonic has lowered the price of the DVX100b. It's now selling for $3499 CDN.

I'm not sure how "official" it is just yet, but at the DVShop for example, they're selling it for $3499 (though there website still says $3899. www.dvshop.ca

I'm not sure if this price drop is happening in the US, but I thought you'd like to know.

Cheers!

Peter

Everybody here sells it at about that price. But Costco is not an authorized dealer.
What does that mean exactly authorized dealer? Did they knock over a panasonic truck or something. Just trying to clarify. Thanks

Much like anyone can cut on FCP, but not everyone is a "Certified Apple Final Cut Pro Editor" -
some dealers are Authorized by Panasonic, and others are not.

One benefit of buying from an authorized dealer is that many times manufacturers rebates,
and other offers, are only available from authorized dealers.

Authorized dealers get their supply directly from panasonic. Unauthorized dealers get their supply from other sources. Other stores, etc. So, depending on where they got them, they may or may not be an authorized product. Which would mean they may or may not (as Luis stated) be eligible for rebates and warranties.

A friend of mine recently bought his DVX100b from Costco and he said before he did, he contacted Panasonic directly and they told him his rebate and warranty would be honored. How does that work if they are not an authorized dealer? Is there a difference between a gray market camera and one bought from an Un-authorized retailer? Or are they considered the same thing?

i have bought 2 from Costco and both times I have gotten the Book the DVD and the best part the MONEY..........yeeee plus you have no need for a extended warrenty as you can return it anytime and that means anytime like ten years from today.....
PS it is the same camera from costco as from the Panasonic warehouse

People also say they get USA cameras from Newegg. They told me not all their stuff has USA warranty. But they said I could send it back if I got one that wasn't. Costco is probably the same way.

Panasonic sells product only to authorized dealers. Costco is not an authorized dealer; ergo, they cannot buy directly from Panasonic.

So who do they buy from? That's the question, and a lot hinges on the answer. If they buy their stock from B&H or some other authorized dealer, then yes it'll be authorized USA product and eligible for warranty coverage. If they buy their stock from some Canadian dealer or other out-of-the-country source, then no it won't be authorized product, and guess what -- you just missed out on about $1,000 of free stuff and you won't have a warranty.

I'm not saying Costco or Newegg or Buydig or places like that are "bad dealers". I think they're all fine dealers. But they're not authorized, so there's no guarantee that they can deliver USA product. What if their source dries up, and they have to go shopping elsewhere for their cameras?

If you can verify beforehand that what you're getting is an authorized USA product, then there's no problem. But if you can't, you're taking a risk -- you're risking missing out on a $500 cash rebate, the DVX Book/DVD, InstantHD and Magic Bullet. Those are all free to buyers of authorized USA product, and not offered to gray-market product.
