ILLEGAL Director's Screening Jan 28th in LA

During the Q&A they mentioned how they screened over at Warner Bros. and some of the people there, (correction) uprezzed it to HDCAM and screened it on a 4K projector (correction) they thought it was 35mm. And they were surprised when told that it was HD from the HVX and M2.

I did a lot of research on 35mm Adapters and after watching this movie I'm very very happy with my decision.

As well as, Brian Valente mentioned that all Redrock customers, past and future, will be given a free copy of their computer based field-monitor. A free download of some kind. So there's more incentive, if there wasn't enough already, to give Redrock your business.

I have the exact same setup those guys used so that feels good. Very inspiring afternoon.

With that, I saw Babel tonight in Burbank just so I could compare the two in quality of picture. No difference. Iñárritu could have made the same movie with the HVX and the M2.

Actually, I think he said they uprezzed it to HDCAM and screened it on a 4K projector.

I had a similar experience with my short, shot 720pN on the HVX with the M2, uprezzed to HDCAM, screened at a Film Festival in December on a Christie 2K projector, looked just like film on a thirty foot screen. Amazing.

I am jealous I couldn't be there. I assume the Matte box can be attahced to the stock lense with an adapter ring?

Hey Richard, any news on your short going forward?

That one scene still creeps me out.

Jim

Don't forget that the wireless follow focus is programmable.
The mattebox and the wireless ff they were planning on having out before nab.

The screening was awesome. That place was packed with people who were happy to be there.

also, those beanies went so damn fast!

Kholi. I live in Stanton and I can make you a copy. Write me at bui.khan at gmail dot com.

Bosindy. The matte box sits on the rod and future upgrade is the swing away attachment.

James,
Its been mentioned on this thread. They are hoping to have it ready for NAB 2007. Again this was a treat for all who attended. Even Brian wasn't aware that Jamie was going to bring the FollowFocus. (I think this was Brian's first look at it also) Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that Redrock can make their deadline without any problems. Good luck guys.

Kudos to the 'Illegal' filmmakers! I got to talk with Andrew for awhile - great guy! And many thanks to Redrock (Brian & Jamie) and Jargon (Sean) for putting this on. Some great new Redrock products being demoed!

Also, it was nice seeing the usual suspects from the LA HVX User Group there. :)

D-C!! I see you're in one of the pictures. I wish I could'a been there, but oh, well. I'm just glad to hear that everyone is saying that the footage looked like film. That's just awesome!:D :D

Hey Jim, remember, it's just a little paperclip.
My short (also shot with HVX/M2 combo) will be screening at another festival in L.A. Feb 10th, I'll create a new thread with all the info.

Kudos to the "Illegal" filmmakers for making such a great looking film.
It was interesting that some of the shots contained some very hot/blown out highlights or backlighting, but the M2 took the harsh edge off the highlights, making them softer and very filmic.

It's worth noting, the screening room at Jargon Entertainment is really nice, great sound, great sub-woofers, very nice projection, and comfy seats. I was also extremely happy with my screening there (at the last HVX L.A. User Group Meeting).

Ha! The WHOLE THING is creepy! :) I watched it again yesterday, Richard. My buddy, Robert, really liked it too. Incredibly well made!

G-Man, yeah, it was a great time for all. One of these days maybe you'll get out here and join in the madness. :)

It was a really good turnout yesterday. Good to see Andrew getting the attention he deserves. I know he put a lot of hard work and energy into making his movie.

I do know that he is making another short film 1st week of March with (2) fully equipped redrock/hvx200s. Maybe this time he can shoot in 1080/24p and nice Zeiss primes.

Hey All,

I justed wanted to also thank everyone for coming out as well - huge turnout. It's great to see the everyone and rally around an inspiring piece of work. We hope to host more of these in the future as more great stories are made (hint hint)

next time I'll remember to put out the drinks and not leave with a case of coke :)

The trailer for Illegal was mighty impressive. I have no doubt that movies such as Heat, Miami Vice, Babel, Crash, 21 Grams, etc could easily have been shot with the HVX + m2/Nikon combo.

Anyone who has dealt with redrock is rolling around laughing right now.

They said that their M2 wait is down to a week right now. It all seems to indicate that they are expanding...

any chance of obtaining a copy of the dvd for us who were unable to attend the screening?

hey guys

For some reason our email aliases aren't working (strange, but regular email is). you can drop me a line at bvalente@redrockmicro.com in the interim.

We do have extra DVDs, but haven't figured out distribution. If you are local to LA area, we can arrange to stop by and pick one up

Cheers

Brian
