AFTERWARD - New Short Film Shot On The DVX.

Thank you very much. The location is owned by my buddies dad, so we just showed up in the morning before customers piled in.

"The blown out video look." Hmmm, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if I should get rid of that bleach filter... If I cut out the dialogue in the first scene, do you all think the film would be more engaging right away? Even with no "Eviction Notice?"

Thanks again for everyone's time to comment, keep them coming,

-Kristopher

The thing is, it's hard to tell with that terrible ifilm compression that the bleach filter was an inetiontional effect. It just looks blown out. Why the bleach filter choice anyway? Why did you want it to look bleachy?

As for the no dialogue at all and no eviction notice shot, it's a tough call. Cause I could see film school teachers and students saying (insert whiny voice here): "I wasn't sure why he was doing this. What was his motivation." I personally believe it would work because I think the look on the actor's face sells it. Unfortunately, the only way you can know for sure is to put it in and show new people and see what they think.

I like Shamrock's suggestion of the slo-mo and heartbeat. Don't know about the death metal though. That might be too much. :)

Good luck.

I can't really add anything to what has already been said but I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your film. It was believeable and you conveyed his dilemma very well.

Thank you very much for taking time to watch!

Great storyline. Well, I really think the production value could've been upped a bit since you had a secure location to work with. Mainly lighting, which if done, seems to pay off in spades w/ the DVX. It seemed mostly handheld. A lot of shots may have been better served on sticks. Agree with a lot of the comments here per the script. I thought the voice in the bathroom was weird. I guess it was a premonition of sorts? The execution of that idea could be developed. And I really wanted a payoff at the end for this type of story. The eviction is left hanging out there. I did enjoy the concept, though, and that's really the most important part. Everything else is technical. Cheers!

Thanks for watching. I'm comfortable with the style of the film. The compression on ifilm just doesn't do it justice. It looks good on TV. Also, I would have liked to solve more, however I did what I could in 5 minutes. In a longer version, we could solve all the problems of the world.

Thanks again,

-Kristopher

Nice job and effective use of story in a five-minute film. I thought the cinematography was decent but I would have liked more close-ups. I think the majority of your shots were Medium to Wide, well composed, but I tend to favor closeups, especially for a story like this which is mostly centered around internal complications rather than external forces. I wanted to see more of the character's facial expressions, his reactions, the conflicting forces pushing him back and forth. It's just hard to pick up on that stuff with the medium and wides, especially when viewing a small internet version of the film.

NICE! Love it. Gets right into the action. I wish that was my first time seeing it so I could get the full effect. Curious to see what first time viewers think. I think it speaks volumes now.

One thing... you can hear the eviction notice land before we actually see it land.

I am curious as well. Thanks again for all your input. Also, the "Landing Sound" is actually coming from the paper falling out. Good point though.

Okay, I think it ALMOST works. The problem with this version, is we never really get to see his face and get to "meet him" before he goes in. I'm assuming your only shot of him in CU in the car is when he has the phone to his ear. So you can't use that. But if I had to choose between this and him on the phone, I'd choose phone just because you get to see his face (although I'd try to cut the dialogue down). If we can't see the pain and the depth on our actor's face before he does the most difficult thing he's ever done in his entire life, well then there might as well not be a movie.

Oh, and sync up the sound effect of the paper dropping with the actual paper hitting the ground. As it is, it happens beforehand and then we just hear a weird silence when it hits. Then again, you may have just thrown this in here to see how it looked. In that case don't listen to me.

There is a moment after he is done talking to his girlfriend on the phone where he has the phone near the top of his head in thought. It's clear he just got off the phone with someone and that he has the world on his shoulders. You could cut to that shot after the car pulls in, then to the behind view. This way we'll "meet him". Damn c.g.eads is good. Good luck with this project.

As far as the location. We had a "secure location" but it was still open for business so we had to haul. I had under 4 hours to do everything. My friends dad was just kind enough to allow us to shoot there and I am so thankful for the time we had. I think we did a good job.

Thanks,

enjoyed it. aside from some technical flaws (such as improper white balancing and poor SFX) i thought the video was well made. you got the story across which is always most important. in our core we are storytellers and many of us forget that.

thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much for watching. Again, I'm comortable with the look and feel of the film. The white balance is correct, the footage has been color corrected to where we wanted it. I also think the sfx is decent, as well.

Thanks,

That was a really cool movie... For a second, I thought the guy was either gonna kill himself or get held up in his car...
