The end of the world, filmed with the DVX100a

Nice dude. Jeez i'd kill to have a location like that. So the falling buildings at the end were done in after effects and trapcode's particular? Looks great! Location and such kind of reminded me of "Children of Men" where was this shot?

Killer locations, it really does give off that whole "Children of Men" vibe. Plus the SFX at the end was an excellent composite and blended very well with your live footage....unless there's something you're not telling us ;)

All the best with the short!

Maybe edit some of the running through the building down (not enough payoff for all that IMO). Also, since you got the FX going off at the end (nice job), I expected to see somekind of nasty black apocalypse type sky when you pan upwards. Maybe you wanted the blue sky to mean 'hope' or something, but it wasn't enough if so. Black "Ghostbusters style" clouds churning would be cool! : )

I saw a lot of continuity issues in the editing. Small, but noticable.

Here's one of them: When Adam walks up the stairs, we see him raising his foot onto the final step and then when you cut to another angle he has like 4 steps left to climb.

This was pretty good. I'm glad I watched til the end cause I considered turning it off early and here's why. After all this decimation you show in the beginning, we cut in on this guy and his hair is perfectly in place, his beard is nicely trimmed, there's not a speck of dirt on his skin, and his clothes looked like they just came out of the washer. There may have been a reason for this, but it looked like lazy wardrobe and makeup to me. This guy should be dirty, grimy, beat up. He might as well have just woken up from a nap on the couch. It just didn't look right in contrast to his surroundings.

Agree with others. The location was great. How did you get permission to shoot there? It looks condemned. And the ending special efx were pretty darn good. I would make the smoke rise a little more slowly. That building was far away, but the smoke looked like it was rising from close by. And maybe thin it out a little. It looks a little thick.

Overall I liked this short. Just giving you stuff to improve on.

Good eye.

Definitely interesting to watch. It reminded me of the game Silent Hill 2, due to the pipe and location. One suggestion: When your showing the guy in the first scene, and you cut to the shot thats obscured by part of the building, keep it on the tripod. The handheld shot gave it a POV feeling, like there was someone watching. Also, a little further into it, when he leaves the first room, the reverse angle shot seemed weird. Great work though!

Thanks for the comments, it was a small one-day shoot and the ending scene was indeed after-effects + particular. I agree that the smoke is going up too fast, turning the scene into something more cartoonish than it should. I chose not to alter the sky, but this is also something that could enhance the scene in the end; I should try and see. As for the actor having a nice shave, no debrits on him, etc.. it's about the (hidden or not) concept that they are Adam & Eve and so, alone in the world. Having the actor look like he realistically survived (bruises, dust) a blast suggests that anyone could have survived the end of the world just by waiting/sleeping in a basement, so I felt the actor shouldn't have a scratch at all. But in the final cut, it's not clear enough.

It's great to have your feedback! Thanks again.

that's a good argument and something I considered. Still, you're right, it wasn't clear enough. Maybe you should (if you could reshoot) show him looking in a dirty grimey mirror, looking at and feeling his face, suprised. Maybe doing the same to his clothes.

Again, good job.

Good work. I agree that I almost tuned out but you caught my interest just in in the nick of time.
Thanks
