M (erciless) Night Shyamalan

I am a big fan of Shamlyan's work. Unbreakable is to this day among my top 20 films, Sixth Sense might have been, had someone not told me the ending weeks before I saw it. The village I enjoyed, but was not blown away by it,

I was put off by Signs and Lady in the water totally disappointed me. The thing that annoyed me about both films, was the suspention of disbelief (or lack there of). In both Sixth and Unbreakable, the largest hurdle was doubt. We (the audience) were constantly reminded of the shear improbabilty of the story, but were delivered plot in small enough logical/emotional bites to break though our disbelief along with many of the characters in the film. LITW had charaters that just accepted things that would have had me offering the guy lithium or thorazine. I mean in the end of the movie, he had an entire room accepting a story about a mermaid and some evil grass monkies.

The story also replaced a lot of actual action with (overly) metaphorical BS.

It must be hard to keep writing stories that drag on with the whole overcoming disbelief, but maybe it's time to pick a different genre.

Zak, I finally watched you BTS documentary on Lady in the Water. I loved it. It actually made me want to watch the movie again...

Seriously, I am not joking, right now I cannot think of a worse film than Lady in the Water. I've seen the crappest films that man has to offer and this out-turds them all. I'm not being unduly mean or unfair, I really mean this. The film is so BLAND and RETARTED (yes, I know I misspelled "retarded") that there should only be a very very tiny demographic who like this film. Why isn't mankind protesting that Night should never be allowed to make another film? Why aren't laws being passed to prevent him from directing / writing ever again? I thought Signs and the Village were excruciatingly horrid but lord have mercy I had no idea the true meaning of gastrointestinal pain until now. Is Night the anti-christ?

God bless Night for being in the position of being able to make films, doing what he loves, but seriously, he must have a 1000 lifetimes of good karma to get away with making so much crap in this life without anyone really seeming to notice. My retarded cat could make a better film than Lady in the Water.

I like Paul Giamatti. I felt sorry for him that he had to be in this film! I like Howard. She has a great face and in the right film she could be terrific but because of her being in two Night stinkers now (The Village and Lady in the Toilet), whenever I see her face I fear I will always see Night's mug superimposed over hers. I don't think I'll ever recover.

P.S. I liked The Sixth Sense. Yay!

I feel this way about David Lynch. But I liked Blue Velvet.

Ouch. As if he wasn't already kicked in the wee wee, they turned around and kicked him in the butthole right after. Poor guy. =\ I feel sorry for him, honestly. OH! And before reading that article I thought it was going to say that he got turned down for a US remake of SAVE THE GREEN PLANET, which was a hilarious movie.

Okay, I saw Lady in the Water last night. The parts I didn't sleep through showed me the most forced, ridiculous plot I've seen in years. He couldn't even wait for the movie to start before he began telling rather than showing. This movie was beyond embarrassing.

the plot was basically big bird exsist and splash 2 electric boogaloo is home to the most stereotyped people on earth.

All right...I'll bite. I will go ahead and waste a Blockbuster Online rental on what is apparently garbage. Now I gotta go move my movie queue around.....

:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) My girlfriend and I kept joking about how we expected Eugene Levy to show up in a neck brace at some point.

There are a lot of movies that start out with a storybook kinda thing. Or a re-telling of a story itself.

yeah but he did it the cheapest way with see spot run type of ****. i mean if you are going to tell it right then show something like the beging of lordof the rings was coolest part to me you get a summary of a war and adventure before the true story of that series begins. try to be creative by any means nessc. but photo shop images. come on.

Alright, I'll accept that. To say that the "cave scrawl" didn't seem to fit with the entirety of the story itself. It also might be that Lady in the Water suffered from, in the eyes of those that thought it was horrible, a lack of having not established the other world. We never saw where the Narfs came from, if I remember correctly. She was just under the pool.

I might have to agree that if this were written by a no-name, it probably would not have ended up being produced unless that no-name had moneys. It felt more like, as I've said before, a made for TV movie to me.

how the hell did she get into that pool anway and why was there door in the pool. he never explained anything but he let everyone thing out loud god i hated that.

That's a great example of how he could've totally turned the storybook beginning on it's head. I can totally agree that I would've preferred seeing the Eagle dump her ass into the pool from `100 feet above and then the Doggy thing coming out, and then introducing Paul Giammati's character. That's from a writer's perspective.

I mean, not even specifically that, but something that showed a few things to begin with. I still stand by my opinion that the movie is not a bad one. Just not a contender with best of the year.

yeah if it had more explantion than the people say what they think is right it could have worked.

I THINK THIS

OH YOU"RE RIGHT FOR THINKING THAT!

HOW DID YOU THINK OF THAT!

GUUURAND MOTHER SAID SO.

god !
