I just bought a DVX and I need a lil help

Hey guys, I just purchased a DVX a couple of days ago and I've been fooling around with the settings, and for some reason I don't really understand the Scene File settings. Anyway someone could go through each one and explain them to me?

Here are the settings:

Scene Advanced
Scene 24p
Scene B-Str
Scene Spark
Scene Flou
Scene

Thanks again!

OK each of those scene file settings are put on a factory preset. And really have little to do with real world shooting. Each setting is programmable, so I suggest you learn the programmable options and then put in your own. This can always be reset back to factory at any time should you wish to sell the camera etc.

Alright, So I purchased the book along with the camera, but a lot of the stuff seems like common knowledge for any filmmaker, or at least film student. Maybe I haven't read enough of the book, but it didn't really seem to cover much in terms of the camera's options( Buttons), but more of how to acheive technical things.

But the DVD which comes with the book gives you on-screen examples of what the various scene file settings do.

What you've listed above are only factory-given titles for different combinations of scene file settings. They mean nothing on their own.

The default F1-4 are 60i modes anyway, so they aren't very useful for narrative filmmaking. F5,6 are 24p modes. F5 is 24p, F6 is 24pAdvanced mode, which is the most useful for most people.

Best thing to get started it to just switch to F6, and then dig into the scene file menu to see how you can customize the settings for Detail, Coring, Color Temp, Gamma, Matrix, etc., and you can save your changes. Shoot some footage, capture it, and check it out.

Later, you can customize all of the scene files for your different looks, you can take all 6 of them and make them 24pA with different combinations of settings, if you like.
