HELP How to Transfer Footage to Laptop HELP

Hi,

I am attempting to transfer my footage directly from the DVX100A cam to my laptop via a 4pin 4pin firewire cable but it doesn't work. Is there an option on the camera to select to make the laptop recognize the connection? Is it possible to transfer footage from the cam right to the laptop with the firewire or do I have to get a deck?

I would appreciate a response asap!

Thank you

What software are you trying to use to "transfer" it?

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to capture as normal using your NLE on your laptop.

But if you're looking to "transfer" the footage from the tape to the laptop like you would files from a hard drive or thumb drive, you can't do it that way. You need to capture.

What software on my laptop should I use to capture it? I am just using a firewire cable that is running from the camera to the laptop itself.

What do you mean capture as normal using NLE on my laptop?

I was trying to capture through AVID freeDV but it said it didn't recognize the camera. Does this mean I need to get another program?

1. Have you ever capture your footage onto PC or Mac and have you any expirience with editng,or capturing.
2. if you dont, I will recommend use of some more user friendly software such as Sony Vegas 5,6 or 7

I am using Windows, and I tried the CTRL + E and nothing happens. I have not installed the better editing softwares just yet so I tried capturing the footage with Windows Movie Maker. When I press capture there it says the capturing device is not detected.

Is there a certain function that is not on in the camera? There is a File Transfer under Other functions in the menu, but it is in the menu or recording, not the VCR menu.

I have edited before, on a mac, using Final Cut Pro. I wanted to do it on my computer, rather than the school's and thought Adobe Premiere would be good.
Thank you for all the help, I am stuck and don't know what to do.
