joining cameras for longer recording time

hi all,

quick question, which would help me out alot,
I use a dvx100 and film alot of plays and events single camera, sometimes they go close or other the 60 min running length of tape and I would prefer not to record long play. I will have access to a cheap sony hc24e camcorder shortly and I am wondering if it is possible to attach the sony to the dvx and use it as a back up slave connecting via firewire ? that way I could start a new tape in the sony near the and get a seemless recording longer then 60 minutes, would there be quality issues?

cheers

Yes you can do exactly that. The DVX has an external firewire command called "chain", which will trigger the Sony to start recording when the DVX nears the end of its tape. And no, there would be absolutely no quality difference.

Just be sure to test it beforehand to make sure you have the settings proper. You have to set in the menus to put the DVX in "chain" mode.
