made with dvx100a, the cam is still kicking with 800 hours on the heads.

This was my first time behind the camera, I had someone else do the shooting for me. It was an experience. The slow motion shots were from the Canon A1.

even though its a "cliche" storyline , I really felt it fit the song but its the last one lol.

edit:

wow man, that was beautiful! What a great video.

they would be out of their minds not to pick this.
you must tell how you did the flash effects and the animation.

Ok- I know where the orange overlays came from, but where did you get the film perforation overlays? Did you just make them yourself and adjust the transparency? Nice looking as always!

Looks great Hiro. Was it posted entirely in Vegas using artbeats, etc? Also, is that straight DVX, or is there an adapter? Incubus is pretty mainstream, so I wouldn't worry about the cliche thing, although...you're technical level is so high now (I've seen a lot of your postings here - all great), that I think you could push the ideas. When I watch Romanek's "Closer" video, I get really quiet thinking about that aspect of music videos.

The other thing is, and I was very hesitant to say this cuz I like the video (but that's what dvxuser is all about), that the film burns/overlays get to the point where it feels like they're there for no reason other than to "flash it up". Like 3/4 through I felt like, "Oh, there are some film burns we haven't used yet. Let's put those in."lol  Also, it's on the verge of being not enough band footage integration IMO. On that note, I was blown away by the "projection" of the band on the wall. Was that planned, or a happy discovery? Best effect in the vid for me. Cheers!

Beautifully edited to the pace of the song! I think the effects and colour work literally made the video for me. It's league's above everything else submitted and you'll definitely win. With the band footage and the professional looking narrative footage, looks like a full blown studio video. Great job man!

What did you use for colour correction? And did you shoot straight DVX with on adapter?

Wish I lived in the US to enter the contest... damn Canadian suckage in the media industry.

Fantastic work! There is a professional quality to everything in this video and I am loving the film-strip perfs. Obviously it's a plug-in but from where and does it automatically covert your footage into film frames on a strip or was that rotoscopped? This video has such a unique and organic look to it and the projection on the wall of the band was just brilliant move to utilize the band's footage.

Bravo!

The blank wall was planned just in case I wanted to put some of the band footage, that part ended up working because it showed where the guy was and the intergration with the band in the beginning. The post work was done by me in sony vegas, gotta give props to the program. as far as the effects being overused, I didn't have someone give me an second opinion before it was submitted, as far as the film burn effects go, I experimented with the look of it, when i had something I would keep it, copy and paste and tweak it to make it different. That last part where its rolling, I used Tv simulator for the effect, I keyframe the parementers until it looked right.

Hope this helps, as far as winning, I don't expect to win becuase they are looking for something thats artistic and new, I only did what I knew how to do even it was a relationship narrative. I do like telling those stories, lol. but as long as they watch and know my name thats good. Maybe it can benefit me in the future.

Very cool. Not to many people use Vegas as well as you. Since that's what I edit on as well, I'm inspired. Thnx! Good luck w/ the contest. Your's is one of the top ones I've seen.

great work dude...

Your footage looks great. Lighting, angles, everything. Works really well with the song and band footage.

I was gonna enter the contest, but just didn't get around to working on it enough. You should be very proud, this is leaps and bounds past everything I've seen on the youTube group.

Hiro, I have great respect for you. You have created some of the best looking DVX footage ever. You are a great source of inspiration.

That said, this isn't among your best work in my opinion - for one reason; the "filterbation" was taken too far.
You create stunning images. You have a talent for finding young actors with a great screen-presence and directing them to a great performance. Your editing is top-notch.
There is no need to be ashamed - no need to clutter it with stock-footage! ;)

Too much of anything....
Filter/effects are used to augment, but I think in this case they are destructive.

I'm not bashing in any way - if your footage wasn't soo beautiful I would'nt be complaining about your attempt to disguise it. I also understand that the task of matching the bands footage with your own makes excessive use of filters tempting - it makes is easier to create a uniform feel.

Your video is still the best. I wish you the best of luck and hope you win - your work deserves alot of recognition.

Yeah...now please excuse my rambling..

cool stuff as always. If I ever get around to my version of the video I'll try to share as well.

Ok Ramon- how many of these contests are you going to win? I just saw the top 5 finalists and yours is definately the best. Congrats!

yea i think yours is the best out of the TOP 5, but i think there were a few others that could have been in the top 5 instead of those other ones. Would be a bit more competition for ya.

Thanks guys!!, I'm a bit surprised that I'm in the top5, there were a lot of good entries.. I received a call and was asked a bunch of questions, one mainly about if i was a professional or not.. lol .....

The difference between me and pro is.. they get paid. I don't know if this had an effect on the other entries or not, ironicially enough.. a lot of viewers thinks its a pro video made a production company... they don't know its just me and my little sony vegas doing all the work. I didn't hold back anything artistically.. thats why theres a crap load of flashes lol.. I only did what i knew, i couldn't do that greenscreen stuff.. that was hard.. anyway.. all the credits goes to dvxuser! This is where it all started baby!! yea!

If you guys like it please vote for me

Hiro, you have my vote! When I first downloaded the video I didn't know about this contest and I've never seen the band members from Incubus, so I thought this was just a random band lip-syncing to one of their songs. :2vrolijk_08:

Anyways, great song, great video. I also think yours is the best out of those 5, good luck man!

KiN.
