Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure in Drama

Tim and I just got up here to his mountain hideaway. Its kind of weird as walking into his place is sort of like encountering the mole people. Dark rooms with roommates sleeping buried under covers ... big living room all dark except for big screen with Patriots game on (Ted, you had to love that finish) .... . Various girlfriends wander through the dark passageways. .... Kind of surreal and I think we need to shoot something here sometime. Maybe put Bullis in the middle of it and stir ... wait to see what happens.

Blaine, stopping by your house is ALWAYS a real pleasure. As much as I enjoy the libation I have to say I appreciate your company even more. Always a literate conversation to go with the hospitality. Thanks for loaning us batteries, shoulder rigs etc. etc.

I intend to post some frames tonight from some of the B-roll as well as the stuff we took yesterday and today. Having Tim along is just pure gold. He's a great shooter and its so nice to be able to ask for something and let him pull it from the camera.

FX are coming along really well. We have all the pieces in place and I've assigned multiple parts to the team. I'm going to get out new assignments tonight to pull in the couple of guys who haven't gotten assigned (Steve, that includes you!).

One thing I will close with. ... I saw what probably is the most beautiful footage I've seen from a Panasonic when Blaine showed me some scenes from Violet. Wow. That 85B filter is simply incredible for those outdoor scenes. I hope you will post some frames on your thread Blaine and Kevin.

You could probably have tracked this production itself like an episode of 24, while Ted is cutting, Mark is shooting more, fx work is being done, scoring is taking place., and so on....that'd be a great way to cut together the billions of BTS footage you've guys got.

Sounds like things are still coming along well... anticipating all these efforts will definitely have paid off.

Hi Rebecca,

I am hoping so!

I hate it when I have an intense involvement in a project (like this one) and then have to sit on pins and needles waiting to learn if my footage worked out as I had planned. Due to logistic issues, I only got to watch about 3 of the 9 days of dailies so feedback on my setups was kinda spotty.

How is "Where Silence Falls" coming along?

Hi Mark,

Glad you liked the bit of footage that Blaine has on "Violet". I really wanted to see how far I could push the dvx by applying every trick that I know. While the 85B filter is something that I do recommend in very high color temperature shooting situations, it, by itself, isn't really what makes the "look" that I went for. I take a lot of liberties with the camera setup and really try to achieve what I want in camera, the limitations of 4:1:1 color space really require that you don't try and do too much in post.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words on "Violet".

Now, lets get some footage from Ted so that I can plan out the ADR session(s) for this week.

Thanks for asking. "Where Silence Falls" is coming along nicely. We finished filming yesterday. Stefan took some BTS shots outside that Norm has posted on our first page now. Weather was cold, but still snowy out, so it looked really cool for the shoot. It really was a great collaborative effort throughout.

Hey Mark-

Did you get Craig today? What are the thoughts for how the fenceline will play out? Thanks again for breakfast, buddy. That, and the shoot/ADR was a lot of fun, as always.

Oh, and I had fun with you, too, Tim!! HAHA!

Check out the new Avatar, guys! Some dude at the airshow snapped it of me without my knowing, and then fired it off in an email. FYI, in case you're looking for continuity, I did a horizontal flip on it (thus the USA patch on the "right" shoulder). Otherwise I was looking off the page... and that's just rude.

Hermn8r, funny catch with the avatar & not wanting to look off the page!

Looking forward to seeing this all together, you TTN folks! Of all the projects I could work on, yours would have been at the top of the list just so for the opportunity to hang with you all! Good group, and sounds like you've all had a very rewarding experience out of this so far, and that's what matters in the long run.

Thanks, man! Yeah, working on TTN was friggin' awesome! It's crazy how much fun we had and how close we all seemed to get after only a few days (well, for me anyways). The crew had been working together for a while longer, and it definitely showed. They were awesome, and more importantly, they worked well together! We got a lot pumped out in a short amount of time.

Hi John and everybody else. YES, we got Craig shot this morning and also picked up some great background plates looking East and West for the end sequence. I had planned on getting that stuff earlier and it just slipped. Was really great to have Tim along and we drove around til we got just the backgrounds I needed.

Kevin, the footage is spectacular. I couldn't be happier. I'm assuming Ted is editing away as I haven't seen him post for awhile here. I believe we are completely covered with our pilots for ADR as Tim and I did it at the 'port.' I think Ted has or should have the necessary vid sequences for the remaining ADR.

Well, Tim and I are getting in the car and heading north. He's bringing his tower with him and I'm going to have him help out on my end of things. Going to teach him a little AfterEffects compositing too!

Haven't had a chance to post any frames but surely will by tomorrow!

Hey Mark,

Have a great time with Tim, but remember he is much younger than some of us "old farts" and he recovers from a hang over much faster than anyone I have seen in a while.

Have a great time!

looks great guys! i cant wait to se this one after this goliath of a thread.
..hermn8r, hows it going? cant wait to see the short :)
