I'm using 3D tracking software on my HVX footage and have no idea what the Back Plate dimensions (called in Syntheyes) or Film Back dimensions (called in Bojou) is/are. Part of making a good track is being able to find this info out. Anybody?
thanks,

I think its the dimensions on the CCD, but more accurately its the exact portion of the CCD that the camera uses, so it will vary from camera to camera even with 1/3 inch CCD's. Its possible to get solid tracks without this info, but it certainly doesnt hurt

I don't know that the spec has ever been published, and it definitely varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. You can get in the ballpark by saying 5.24 x 2.95mm, but that's only in the ballpark, I don't know what the exact dimensions are. The XL2 usable-area of the CCD was noticeably smaller than the DVX/PD170. The HD100's usable-area is smaller than the HVX, which appears to be the same size as the Canon, which both of 'em appear to be smaller than the Sony (based on setting the lenses to equivalent focal lengths and observing the image magnification at those focal lengths). So nobody but Panasonic is likely to be able to give you a definitive answer. But 5.24 x 2.95 should be accurate to within about 10% or so.
