hey folks....I hope this is the correct place to post this, so here goes...
I wil be shooting HVX set at 720/25P and Sony HDV 1080i. the sony is what I have available to use as my underwater camera, the HVX will be up top..... are there any HVX users that have had to mix and match and what can I do in FCPHD 5.1.2 to help match the footage.
thanks in advance,
Eric

Shoot in 1080i not 720p and set the camera to video not film type camera.

You will have an easier time downgrading the HVX footage with in camera settings to look more video-like sony HDV footage than you will trying to smooth the look of the HDV footage to emulate the HVX's cine look in post.

Is it really necessary to make it match? After all any underwater footage will have a totally different look to it anyway.

yes, we all thought that was the other way to go but the underwater material is a small although important part of the project....however not important enough to shoot the whole piece in a less than desirable look method. I want to film look not video look and the project will be in 95% slo mo.

that was another question we asked ourselves. With the underwater part having a diiferent feel is it neccessary to match, but I had to ask anyway if there was a techical work around. I shoot 99% film and although I have never been afraid to shoot video, or shall I say capture digitally, most of my clients shoot film because it is far superior in many ways (when you have money). this project is purely personal, so my director and I have jumped at the chance to experiment. After watching a demo by Motivity Pictures we were impressed enough with look and the possiblilities to manipulate the image to put the hvx200 through the paces.

Eric
