Edited this during my school lunch hour

hahah of course I have!

Thanks for the comment, you're right, I should use a tripod more often...I didn't realize how much shaking I do.

But usually I have such bad palsy that I can't even put my camera on the tripod.

sorry, i really wasn't being rude, but i've been shooting and editing for nearly 20 years.
and i take on work experience students from university, and i find that a lot of the basics are not even taught at uni.
How to get a steady shot (even if it handheld), lighting, and sound. plus shooting sequences that will actually cut together, without having to resort to using fade to black > fade from black (to hide the fact that 2 shot's will not edit together)

I think you did a great job for high school. I am watching this during one of my classes today so I didn't put on any audio. Using a tripod isn't necessary for what you are doing, I think the handheld aspect is an important stylistic decision for your piece. Try using the camera's built in steady shot options.

And avoid close ups of gross acne.

your right. many situations do not require a tripod.
but you don't want the viewer switching it off half way through, because they feel sick.

think of you showreel!!

have you ever heard of a tripod.
you will give everyone a headache

Well i read this guys responce before i saw the vid so i expected the worst. I think you did fine. The shaky shots weren't bad at all, they were handheld but not earthquakes. As far as shooting for the edit, thats true for story setups but you have more of a documentary setup going which works fine with what becomes some what of a montage. I'd loose the fades to black and just use cuts. Anyways good work, welcome to the world of production.

hahah true about the acne part...

I just used the fades because I was editing on ImovieHD at school, and didn't put any other program on the new iMacs, lol!

Yeah, I just really wanted to edit the stuff, and the computers I usually use are down right now. :[

But thanks for the advice, I'll def try to change things around a bit.

Here's a tip... remove the zoom function on the cameras. Zoom should be used sparingly. Keep your subject the same size in the frame when you're doing stuff like this... especially if you're hopping eyelines like they're a jump rope.
