Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure in Drama

Well, at least Ted and I know what a taco cart is now. Although I'm still not sure what the Joker Bug was, I've learned that if you shut up, look serious and let Kevin and Tim do their thing you can look like you know more than you do!
That Taco Cart incident has got to be one of my favorite memories from this. Damn, we laughed our a$$es off about that!

And, yes... surround yourself with talent and you'll no doubt be better for it!

Found it!!

The lighting setup for the Taylor's CU is actually one of the more simpler ones:

Kevin used a 4' Kino with 2900 K balanced bulbs positioned about 4 ft from the actress for the Key (and with only 3 of the bulbs struck, I believe.) Then we used a Arri 650 in a Chimera, and heavily flagged off for a bit of fill, and a Dedo 150 positioned high for the kicker and hair light.

That's about it, I believe.

Actually, this isn't it either, since the earlier photo was in a scene between Rob and Taylor and this is a later scene with Taylor alone on the "radio". But I think it's basically the same setup.

Well dudes, today is the last day at the Casa Johnson for me.

Editing has gone well and should have a rough cut of the film by the time I board the plane tomorrow.

I will post some more grabs a bit later.

(Brandon, sorry for cracking on you... I thought it was funny. I hope that you didn't mind!)

Until later - Ted

Blaine, thanks for posting that BTS lighting shot. Very instructional. After looking at all these BTS lighting shots you guys have been posting/talking about since I asked, I have learned one invaluable thing about lighting that I think will make a vast improvement on my next project . . . I'll hire Kevin and his crew to do my lighting

Good jub guys, really looking forward to the finished film.

Peace,
Larry

Thanks Larry. Sorry I didn't get to meet you on these trips. Hopefully next time!

Well said, Larry,

I thought I knew a couple things about lighting until working with Kevin on this shoot. Another thing equally important is how Kevin helped us AVOID so many mistakes and unnecessary expense. When we presented our script to Kevin and Blaine, they broke down the scenes and really opened our eyes about how important it is to consider what will be necessary to light particular scenes. Thus, we made MAJOR changes in the script. For instance, we had a daylight interior set in a restaurant with big windows on all sides. To light it properly would have been very expensive because we'd have to either put ND film on the windows or use expensive instruments to get balanced light inside.

Kevin is really on top of his game. The one negative I will warn you about is that you have to post a guard on his veggie sandwich. Twice he was famished and went to craft services to eat only to find someone had stolen his meal! I think Kyle is the prime suspect now due to the avacado debris visible on his shirt in some BTS shots.

Well you can rest assured, Kevin, that if you are ever on my set (or vice-versa, I'm on yours) that the culprit stealing "veggie" anything will not be me. If you are missing a nice, thick, juicy steak, or hamburger, or something equally as satisfying...then you can look my direction

I would like to be cleared of any veggie stealing accusations. Does anybody have a BTS photo of my Scooby-Doo sandwich from Friday? Lots of meat on that baby!!

Ted- Have a safe trip home. See you back in CA soon!

Thanks John (Hermn8r). I have to tell you the film is looking EXCELLENT! I can't wait for you to see your work! (I am up to the PILOTS RUNNING SEQ)
