Wanted to make sure everyone knows that the new version is available. It has support for natively digitizing and editing HDV, allows for multiple resolutions in the timeline, multiple resolution in multicam editing, and the quality looks awesome. I am using it on desktop and laptop systems and it is very fast. It will also support editing HDCAM files and JVC DV Pro files.

Of course it works well with P2 and all DVCPro HD media and has for some time now.

Thanks for the heads up. I think this release will really justify Xpress Pro HD as THE HDV solution.

Not to belittle a major release or anything, but now if we could just get HD on Mac.

So your saying if I import an image that is 1600 x 1200 it will stay that way inside of the timeline and i can shrink as I want ? As well can I put 24p and 60i and 30fps all together on the same timeline with this version?

Some clarification...

The 24p JVC HDV material will be suported in an upcoming follow on release.
Mixing formats refers to material that is of the same frame rate and raster (progressive or interlace) being in the same timeline - so 29.97i can have DV25, DV50, HD, and HDV in the same timeline and be able to play.

Importing of stills that are not of SD or HD resolutions will be formated to that format unless you use pan & zoom or other third party plug-in. No change there.

Thats terrible. When is Avid gonna learn that people need there images imported at the resolution they start at? What is their reason for not implementing this?

Why is it such an issue? Pan & Zoom lets you bring in an image at whatever resolution you want. If this is a problem for you, how about starting a new thread and explaining what you're trying to accomplish. I don't think it's as dire as you're thinking it is.

Chris

Oh, well I know when I import an image thats like 4000 x 3000 or something similar it brings it down to 720 x 480 and I need the full res to be able to zoom in close and everything.

And that's what the Pan & Zoom plugin is for. Take a look at it, it's pretty easy to get the hang of.

Chris

Skettalee,

Also, Boris RED (also known as Avid FX for Xpress Studio users) does a great job with pan & scan work. So you have Pan & Zoom and Avid FX. Both do great things with large images you might want to use.

Good luck,

I lost my Avid

I lost my Avid

I was upgrading my 5.1.2 to 5.2 so before I tried to download the upgrade I deleted all and everything Avid off my computer and I was starting from scratch. I wanted to install the 5.2 as if I was putting Avid in my computer for the first time. when I tried to extract all from the cd it said no files to be extracted. The properties from the cd showed the 5.2 on the cd but it kept saying the file was corrupted or nonexistant. Did I do something wrong by deleting All the previous Avids in my computer should I have left the original 4.6 in there.

Please help desperately seeking Avid.

Deleting the old Avid stuff wouldn't cause that. It sounds like you got a corrupted download. I'd try downloading 5.2 again and trying to install from the new file.

Hope that helps.

Bringing this back....

I recently got my hands on a copy of Avid Xpress Pro HD. I'm looking to replace my current Avid Xpress Pro 4.5.1 system with the HD. What would be the best procedure to follow in installing the HD? I am currently in the middle of editing an online webseries and I'm wondering what will this software replacement do?

Should I uninstall 4.5.1, then install HD? All of my media is on my internal drives too. How would this affect that?

From what I remember the 5.x installer will automatically uninstall the old version.

Again, from what I remember, the big issue is that the settings files are incompatible between the two versions, so you'll need to delete the old settings files to make old projects work. Make a complete backup of the projects tree before installing and then you can recover files if you delete the wrong thing by accident :).
