I've been lurking here for a month or so, trying to soak up as much knowledge as my tiny little brain will handle. I have a few questions that will probably seem pretty basic, but after searching cannot find answers to.

I'm planning on purchasing a DVX100 before the first of the year with the intent of offering video production to my current graphic design clientel (and maybe some "creative" work down the line somewhere).

I have a Dell E520 (Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 GHz, 1066 FSB) with 256mb ATI Radeon X1300Pro and 250GB SATA; running Adobe Premier Pro 2.0. I would like to add a monitor for viewing SD video but don't know how to go about this. The ATI card has S-video out; can I just plug (for example) a Panasonic BT-H1350Y 13" Hi-Res Pro Color Monitor into the S-video port to view my work? I also plan on adding a 250GB internal as well as a 250GB external for back-up. Any other hardware recommendations would be VERY appreciated.

BTW, great forum!

That should cut it, but you might make some changes for a bigger project. You didn't mention how much system Ram you had, but 2 gig is recommended- and you'll do good with the extra Raid space. Chances are, if you have several clients, you may also be working on a few different projects at some point, plus storage for finished projects. If you should decide to take advantage of HD projects, you'd want a better video card and HD monitor, then you'll be good to go.

It's well worth getting a second dedicated drive for capture. My system is an E6600 with an ATI X1950 XTX card and 2 Gigs ram. I ended up getting a second 750Gig drive for only video. I learned that if a single drive is used during the capture it can drop frames due to window XP momentarily using the drive. Tried various methods to fix it without forking over the $$ but it was eventually the only solution. Also, Tigerdirect has some great drives at reasonable prices Western Digital / Caviar SE16 / 500GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive ----$150.00. I buy all my stuff there, actually I built this computer from scratch at a great price..I will never buy prebuilt computers again..eg Dell, gateway....etc. Now a days, with everything so modular a chimp could put these thing together...
