My first "official" timelapse reel (5 minutes long!)

That was hot! Is that 720 or 1080? Great song, and over all nicely paced montage. I liked the vibe behind the lens too. That's good art. Keep it up

Ahhhhh...

Ahhhhh...

That was sweet. I love the music, and that track from the soundtrack for the movie "The Fountain" fit it perfect. Watching your piece makes me appreciate how beautiful mother earth really is and at the same time I felt a little sad because of what man is doing to destroy it. Great stuff none the less!!

You've got some mesmerizing shots in there. Very nice, with that sublime music. I notice you got hit by the dreaded birds. I actually go in and take them out frame by frame in photoshop, but then again, I shot on a DLSR, so I have to process each frame anyway.

Really great stuff. I like when the high-atmospheric clouds move in a different direction that the low clouds. It's a neat effect.

Hey Tom thanks for the comments. I really really hate those birds as well, they look like little bugs. Is there an easy way to remove these in FCP? Or do I need to export whatever frames contain birds and do it in Photoshop. I'd really like to solve this issue.

Thanks again.

The birds are allright. Keeps things real which has an effect of it's own .

Sometimes it can just ruin what could be a moving painting. Can take you out of the overall experience. Just a little annoyance.

Oh, and sorry I didn't answer your question. It was 720p.

thanks Jeff , i thought that may be 720. You are probably right about the birds, though it's almost worse when they start dropping loads around the gear. Back in the day when we wanted a clear shot (in 16 mm) we'd line the outskirts of the frame with young kids sporting 12 gauge shotguns. Because we were shooting timelapse you couldn't hear the buckshot going off in the backround. Once in a while a bird escaped the 12 gauge pellets, and would enter the frame much like in your footage. I guess the birds in your footage make me nostalgic about the old days. You guys have it easy these days with this photospot, or photoshop, or whatever it is you kids call it. Probably using that de-bird filter the timelapse community has been raving about. In anycase Jeff, let's see more!

Agree with everything here, very nice footage! I'm curious...some of the cloud shots feel like you are high up in the atmosphere; (about 65% in, the shot right after the 4 smokestacks) I almost thought you were in an airplane or something, how did you get those shots?

Hey Jeff,

What were the settings for the timelapse? What time frame did you have your camera set to? And how long did you have to sit there to get one of those shots?

Just curious.

Oddly enough, that shot was filmed in a construction yard close to where I live. There was (for a short time) a very large mound of dirt that allowed me to get, I'd say, about 30 feet above the ground to shoot above most buildings, etc. Sadly, after returning three times, I was kicked out and forbidden to return.

Safety issues...geez.

I can't remember my specific settings (I always change them given any situation), but I'm really just filming in normal time and speeding up in post. It's not TRUE timelapse (regarding framerate), but I've read that I need a SD card? Which I don't have, and being a 20 year old college student, my funding comes and goes (usually going).

So it's really just FCP doing all the work. I find that I can then speed up or slow down the footage to my liking....but things like birds entering the frame is a detraction as I'm assuming if I did the fps hack, that wouldn't happen.

As for how long most of these shots took? Most of them averaged between 8 and 12 minutes. The longest being 27 minutes. I don't use P2 cards, just the firestore, which to this day seems to stop filming for no reason at all, even after the upgrade.

not sure how to remove birds on FCP. it's a real pain if there are too many frames that need to be fixed. best just to shoot where few birds are around, if you can.

Those pesty firestores. Almost as bad as the birds. You should be able to do interval timelapse no problem on the firestore without an sd card. Your sped up footage is pretty convincing anyways. I don't think the 2fps hack will solve the bird thing. They'll still be there. So are you studying film? And is that your' hvx? If so pretty good for a college kid.

That was awesome. I love the lapse of the clouds in the foreground moving one direction and another set of clouds in the back ground moving another. Powerful stuff.

Nice stuff. Love the popping colors and the debth... just seems to go on forever and that one shot with several going by is great.

When I first got my HVX I was timelaspe crazy.. Loved the clouds and all that bizness.

Great job

Really? I never would have thought of such a thing!

Jeff, that's really nice!

I like the way you're using the zoom to get tight into the clouds on some of the shots.

I love the ones where the clouds are "boiling". Very rarely see that over in the UK but I'll get there!

Just one thing I didn't like - there's a clip where the clouds are moving rapidly from right to left, then suddenly, they appear to go the other way! This could be avoided if you's put a clip with the clouds moving more slowly in between - or preferably, going away or coming towards the camera (if you see what I mean).

Anyway, great stuff - and I just love the ending!

Andy
