Thinking of a Letus 35FE... Hope these grabs & review help.

Weight is a problem, but mostly it's f-stop. Zooms are slow slow slow; lots of zooms don't open up past f4. When you're dealing with losing as much light as these adapters do, you don't really want to compound that by using an f/4 lens too.

I noticed some people mentioned (maybe in another thread) recommended primes to have in one's kit (25mm, 50mm, etc) but it doesn't seem like there's much talk of zoom lenses. Is that a weight issue? With rods, would weight even be an issue?

I like zooms because they give you "inbetween" primes. noone says you have to use the zoom function. I have a medium quality Konica 30-80 Zoom that gives me reasonable, clarity, sharpness, color and still is an F3.5, which when out doors or when youre under controlled lighting isnt terrible.

My new SGproREV2, loses about 1.5 stops of light as opposed to my old Sgpro's .5 stops. The newer GG is finer grained and INFINITLEY sharper. but loses more light. so its a balance.

But zooms are Great. Buy a nice Zoom. i am drooling for a Cook S4 T2, 18mm-200mm Zoom. That one lens can do it ALL. its fast, and covers damn near angle, Fstop and is Back focusable. Its probably also like, 15,000$..... but thats besides the point.

Oh, and this should be good for a laugh, all around...

...been playing with my just-arrived L35FE, and Quyen told me that to level it, I should screw the metal adapter-ring into my DVX, then pull the adapter body free of the ring, level it, and push it back into place...

...which I can't because the previous owner apparently got it level-set for *his* camera, and then EPOXIED the ring to the prism/GG housing, making it immovable and non-adjustable for ever and ever, amen.

Previous owner's a f*cking idiot. And he's about to owe me a chunk of change for selling me a purposely made-defective item, plus shipping.

Here's a quick grab of the sky using the Letus 35 Flip

The reason I posted it was because there was some issue of the Letus and it's grain pattern when filming the sky.

I have noticed that if you change your battery in the Letus and it dosen't start working correctly you will see "blotches" for lack of a better word. If you tilt the untit down or to the side the vibrator will start working correctly and the blotches will disappear.

My main issue so far is the dust. Dust I cant get at to clean. I'm going to write and see if I/we can get some instructions for the proper disassembly and cleaning of the unit. Compressed air dosen't do the trick.

I've managed to tae my Letus35FE apart SAFELY to clean. I am thinking of posting a video link up here to show the steps. maybe within a couple of weeks... its not difficult at all..

Yes the previous owner IS a f*cking idiot! without the ability to turn the metal ring you're not going to be able to level it.. how are you going to fix it?

by the way this is a brilliant thread. I am not a pro film maker by any means but I have the Letus35FE and it is absolutely amazing for the price we pay. While I understand that there will be some people who are more pedantic towards the look of the set up, grain issues (I can understand the reason for this), but I'm more happy go lucky - if I can capture an image, even though it may be slightly grainy BUT with the look the Letus35 can give me, I am a happy bunny. films from the old days look crappy compared to the current hollywood productions but I don't think anyone would complain about it - we will still cherish those images even if they were in B&W and a little grainy. So I don't really understand all this hang up about grain. It'll only take one BIG and recognised director to shoot a kick ass film with tons of grain and grain will suddenly be an in thing (IMHO - maybe that will never happen).. it's just a matter of preferences...

Also anyone thinking of getting of the Letus35 should also consider the fact that Quyen is very very helpful and respond very quickly to emails. For that reason alone since I live in Asia, someone who can provide good customer was a big criteria for my purchase decision... I guess in the US you may not have this problem....

AND I REALLY should get Barry's book! Wil try and get an order through this month...
