The footage didn't show up?!

I recently filmed some skiing on a clear, low humidity day, with temperatures in the mid 30's F on my dvx100a. The last time we had used the camera was a few days before on a rainy night although the camera didn't get wet and we opened everything and took the tape out afterwards to let it air out just incase. After the clear day of skiing we looked back at the tape to review the footage and nothing showed except for the last couple shots, which had those pixelated bars going across them. We lost about ten minutes worth of really good shots and I have no idea why. I am positive that it was recording and we weren't on any new settings that we haven't used before. In playback mode, it is just blue, but there is a large space that indicates that the tape was moving while we were filming, it just didn't capture it somehow. Do you know how i can avoid this from happening again, or if i can somehow find the footage? What the heck happened?:furious3:

could it be dirty heads? If i am not mistaken you're suppose to clean every 50 hours of use. No idea though just a guess

I would say there's a good chance it was condensation. Despite your efforts to air it out, there was probably still some moisture inside and the cold temperatures caused it to condense. The next time you shoot in humidity (rain, jungle, etc.), try putting the camera in a sealed plastic bag with a nice big can or bag of desiccant crystals, which should absorbe the moisture. A quick check on Google shows this place as selling that kind of thing:
