FINAL CUT CAPTURE PROBLEMS. please help.

I just got the HD-100 and tried capturing some test footage through final cut pro. Im running a intel Mac Pro tower and using the camera, via firewire, to capture. None of the Easy setups would work for me and after many unsuccessful attempts to alter the Audio/Video settings I couldn't get it right. Finally I used an Apple intermediate Codec and had to do a "Capture Now" type thing, so I couldn't actually log anything, I just had to the roll the camera and record. Can someone who is digitizing successfully take a screen capture of the their Audio/Video Summary page so I can see what Im doing wrong. Im using FCP 5.1.2.

Thank you so much!

Were you in "VTR" mode on the camera? You won't be able to properly control or capture from the camera remotely via firewire unless you are in VTR mode.

If you have FCP 5.1.2, then you should be able to capture 720P24/25/30 very easily with the HDV presets. There is a little software issue with TC rate when you capture 720P24, but it doesn't affect the video and is easily adjustable in the software.

Yes I was in VTR mode and i was trying to use the HDV 720p30 easy setup. An error message kept coming up saying that my camera wasn't connected properly and that i had the wrong audio/video settings.

Weird. I thought logging and digitizing had been figured out for HDV in Final Cut. I must say Im a little disapointed. I will try these other options and see if it works. As for the firewire thing, I turned the camera off before I plugged it in and I did in fact capture something, albeit a workaround method. So, Im sure the firewire port isn't fried.

thanks for your input.

Really need some help here. Please don't make me beg.

Really need some help here. Please don't make me beg.

So Im am still trying to digitize footage with my HD-100 and have yet to be sucessful :( Im editing with an Intel Mac Pro tower, using Final Cut version 5.1.2.

I swapped out firewire cables, tried every different easy setup and adjusted all the audio and video settings. Im totally confused and need some guidence. There must be people with the same setup using the camera to digitize footage?? If anyone of those people could send me a screen shot of their audio/video settings summary page, I would be soooo happy.

I think my biggest problem is that final cut is simply not recognizing a firewire device. It says that it's "Missing". See picture below.

I'm leaving in less than a week and need to get this issue resolved by then. If anyone has some advice, I would love to hear it.

Cheers :)

Maybe try "HDV Firewire NDF" under Device Control presets. If that doesn't work, there are 4 or 5 other HDV device control presets available. Try any and all to see if one of them works.

Btw, if you're capturing 720 24p HDV material, according to the FCP's HDV 720p24 Easy Preset "Device Control" needs to be set to HDV FireWire NDF.

I've tried the Non drop frame setting and I've actually tried all the settings - it's just not working for me.

I am trying to capture HDV 30p material using the HDV 720p30 easy setup.

Did you try the suggestion in my last post? You likely have a blown firewire port, but you need to confirm that that is the problem, and not some other configuration problem.

Make sure:
-HDV/DV switch is in HDV position and the camera is in VTR mode.
-Close FCP.
-Launch HDVxDV and check if the camera can be seen, or if it also states "no HDV device."

If HDVxDV doesn't see the camera either then you have a hardware problem. Take the camera back to your dealer and have them check it on a test system to confirm the problem.

I tried the HDVxDV software and it says i have "No Device." And final cut is not recognizing it either. This sucks.

Your settings look fine. Don't be concerned about the "missing . . ." prompt. I've been told that that only applies during in the print to tape mode.

I've had the same problem as yours with my JVC portable player/recorder. This fix has solved the problem. I've tried to post this suggestion several times. If you've tried it without success, I apologize for the redundancy. Nonetheless . . .

In the FCP view menu, you'll find a little tab called "Refresh A/V Devices." Click it and then restart FCP. Remember to turn the playback device on and set it in the playback mode when you restart FCP.

I also bought a one-year "procare" package from Apple. Procare gives me unlimited face-to-face access to Apple personnel in my area who have been certified in FCP and other professional applications. Believe me, Procare has spared me from a lot of hair-pulling.

Looks like its the firewire port. I spent half an hour with an Apple support guy and that was his diagnosis.

I am so disapointed with this camera.

Ive been having problems capturing JVC HDV footage as well.. I went and bought a BlackMagic Intensity HDMI capture card to use with my JVC BR-HD50 Deck... Apparently JVC puts HDCP into their decks and the HDMI capture card sees this stream as copy protected and wont capture it!! What kind of bull is that... Does anyone know is there is an HDV deck with HDMI without HDCP??? Let me know!! Cause the HDMI capture card captures HDV and encodes it realtime to DVCProHD... Say bye bye to long render times... if i can get it to work!!!
