New Music Video: Oh, Doctor: "Play The Victim"

I just finished a new music video for a very talented band "Oh, Doctor". It has got to be one the most enjoyable shoots I've had. The band and the crew were so involved in the production that everything ran pretty smooth. The budget was around 50 bucks for make-up, wardrobe, and gas. We shot it guerilla style at an abandoned office/warehouse over a weekend. Anyways I had a lot of fun making it and I thought I would share it with you guys.

fantastic video!!! nice song too.

it would be nice if you could tell me how much light was used for the live performance part and what kind of color correction tool did you used.

Hey thanks for the comments guys!

"ZAO"

For the first performance setup I blasted 2 Arri 650s from the giant hole in the wall to use as a backlight and We rigged 4 homedepot flood lights to a lighting mixer as key lights.

The second part of the performance I used an Arri 650 for a keylight and we hid about 8 homedepot floodlights in random locations all over the room and programed them on the mixer to go off randomly to add a chaotic effect.

As far as CC goes I started out with the "basic" Magic bullet filter and tweaked the tints and saturation to my liking.

thanks again guys!

Very good work! That singer has such a gentle lyrical sound to his voice...

Seriously though, I liked their performance. It looked like they really were into it. It's good to see bands who take their talents to the most in terms of acting.
I liked that you mixed pro lights and work lights. It's an Arri-HomeDepot presentation.

The CC had an almost bleach bypass feel to it. Were you using a lot of black diffusion there? The image had a very glossy feel to it.

that was definitely a cool vid, the only thing that bugged me was the flickering of the lights particularly on the CU to MS's of the lead singer (more so for the first half of the vid, didn't seem as bad in the second half), cause we want to see his face but because the lights are flickering we don't get to see it as clearly as we'd like, i think it could've worked better with just one focus light on the singer and then lights flickering on the rest of the band or even just on the backwalls.

I love the shots of the drummer the most I think, they really give off the sense of intensity and heaviness of the song. I also think the sub-plot really works with them being interrogated and the way they escape at the end, it all comes together really nicely.

great vid, awesome song too!

Yes the band did very well in terms of acting and performing they had so much fun beating each other up for the subplot it was awsome haha. and Yeah i did use a little black diffusion but not a whole lot I was going for crushed black, white, and blue/grey look, for the subplot and I think it turned out reasonably well.

I can see where your coming from with the lighting, A focus light on the singer may be more appropiate to keep the audiences attention. As for the shots of the drummer, I bumped up the shutter to 1/120 to give it a more intense feel as apposed to the rest of the first performance which was at 1/48.

I appreciate the interest.

and heres some pics from the production I thought you guys might like...
