Help - how to rewind and play back footage on camera

This will probably seem like a dumb question to all you experienced guys but i have a problem. I got a DVX 100b for Christmas and i need to know how to play footage i have shot back to me on the camera LCD screen.

So far, when i press that little stick in the direction of the play symbol, it does nothing. When i rewind the footage, it plays backwards in normal time and i have to keep the stick pressed in that direction, can i not let go and speed it up somehow? The only way i can play the footage to see what i've shot is by holding the stick in the fast forward area, in the same kind of way i described for 'rewinding'.

Is there no easier way? I shot some test footage to put on my computer, and when i capture it, i have to keep my finger pressed on the on camera stick for the whole time - it is very annoying.

I read in a post that i have to put the camera to VCR mode. How do i do that? Whenever i press the VCR button near the screen nothing happens.

Please help, i looked at the manual but it didn't help.
You are my only hope!

Owners Manual.

Read the whole manual.
Use a highlighter.
Use the camera.
Re-read the manual.

when all else fails, use the search function.

Oh!

It's ok now. You know that CAMERA/VCR button under the scene file wheel thing...never saw that before lol.

I'm good now, thanks.

Dont.
Thats not it.
Its just your enthusiasm for a fantastic camera.
Been guilty of the same thing myself.
Welcome aboard Gonk!.

BTW, the owners manual is limited and very unclear in some areas, i.e. some of it is written in Japenglish (no slam here, just a patent law cliche).
Barrys' book is a must read--twice!.
