Colorado Nature In The midst Of Winter.

The scenery looks great!!!

Now for my rant...

Maybe it's just me, and It's bothered me before, but what's the point of putting your name across the middle? I rarely post comments on here, but I felt the need this time.

Maybe I'm the only one that it distracts, but in all honesty what do you think....someone is gonna steal your video? And if so, what would they use it for? Would they call it their own?

Maybe putting it in the lower right or lower left, but I don't get what the purpose is of putting it in the middle.

It really took me out of the scenery and I couldn't get fully into it because i had to look through ALLABOUTNOW.

Beautiful stuff! I really liked your tasteful use of different framerates and your choice of music. I find I really enjoy just looking at beautiful images sometimes (the DP side of me!) and something like this really goes to show that contrary to popular belief, story doesn't trump everything. Having a good eye for composition and a compelling subject counts for a whole lot in my book. I do agree with aurantaurant, however, that the watermark is distracting and unecessary. Might want to rethink that for future projects. Either way, I'm jealous of all your beautiful winter weather!

ah, nice footage man. :) with that music i felt like i was going to see Indiana Jones pop up in one of those mountain scenes.

i agree the watermark is kinda distracting but i dont blame you for putting it smack dab in the middle. anybody could rip some of those scenes and incorporate it into their project just being too lazy to go out and get the footage themelves.

First, Thanks so much for the complements,

Second, Yea, I hate putting watermarks in my videos. HOWEVER we cant be totally naive. Just becasue you wont steal, dosent mean some else has the same morals as yourself and me. I personal would never snoop to that level. But there are many that do on a regualr basis. It sucks to put a watermark on something and make it distracting. People can get a short clip of video and resell it as their stock, and it does happen. I guess for those who take the time to go out and shoot, better safe than sorry.

Finally, I want to offer a big enough resolutioned video so that way people can enjoy the detail, however with that size, if it had no watermark it can used as SD Anamorphic 16:9 stock footage. Sorry I had to keep it on, I hope it I did not ruin your Christmas because of my watermark ;)

My x-mas was going f 'n incredible untill i saw that watermark! I almost think you did it on purpose to ruin my holiday spirit. Next thing you know you'll be getting a threat PM for those evil inspired watermarks you've been posting. Church goers don't use watermarks, especially not around x-mas time! Having said that, i actually think it's funny people complained. There's nothing distracting about the watermark, unless you are a client ready to spend. SurJones put up a bunch of hot ass nature shots, in usable resolution. It's not because i won't go out and shoot the same footage, it's just that it's logistically imposssible. That's besides the point, if you want to keep your' integrity as an artist, you have to protect yourself against the dark side. Or at least that's what Obi One taught me.

Yes, folks do steal video off the web everyday. I have had my demo reel stolen. I can list dozens of folks who make a living as videographers who've had footage stolen and used by others as their own.

I had no problems with the watermark. The footage was as good as it gets. Loved it!

Really nice footage, can you tell us what music you used?
Don't mind the watermark, too many hours of nice images to get ripped off.

Good looking stuff. Was I the only one seeming a sustantial stutter during the panning shots? If I was then nevermind. A few shots seemed random compared to the scenery but that doesn't really mean anything. Good job.

Thanks for the great responce. I know the BenB would understand my watermarkage :)

I have gotten quite a bit of PM asking for settings, most of you did not specify which video you wanted the settings for, so I will post settings for each video.

I enjoyed your footage. I have a new HVX. Can you tell me what format you shot the footage? Video or Film.
Also your settings and what format you rendered in.

Thanks
Ted

I shot MAINLY at 720p/24pn 60fps - Edited in a 24p timeline and either upped the 60fps footage up to normal 2.5x (250%) So it looked normal speed, (Only where snow or action would look cool slowed down) That way I could keyframe/ramp my footage to slow down. I also did reverses the same way, but I dont think people noticed the reverses, it is my calling card. :)

Also for the catching the snow falling from trees. I am guilty, I set up the camera and tapped the tree very lightly.

TimeLapses were 2fps 350d Frame Rate Hack :)

BlueGray. I dont know what the heck happened on my shutter to give me such Jutter. I was on the Side of the freeway, In the middle of Colorado, and had a Highway Patrol watching over my choulder. He was intrigued at my filming. He loved it, awkward for me. But I set I am sure 1080/30p @ video 1/250th. I am pretty sure, cant remember. maybe 1/60th, BUT I DOUBT IT. It was bright outside, and would have been to much light, unless I used an 1/8 ND.. hmmmmm good question.

The last scene of the the contrsuction I threw in beacuse some dude was like Take a picture of me doing some action stuff. And I was iike ya, I am filming 60fps, so action is good. He wwanted to see the footage so I edited it in. His action was screwing in a screw... yippie!!!! But he wanted to see himself, and I did not feel like making a clips specially for him.

The music, I honestly cant remember, I have my folder with it in it somewhere on a stack of 10DVD's worth of footage. I shot like 10 4gig P2 worth of footage.

In whole I did so many differnt settings, it would not be worth it to post. Each shot even EVERY snow Show took me like 5mins to set up. It was not a Run and Gun, which was nice. Got to play around. I did not do any color correcting, so what you see is what I shot.

Thanks again for all the great comments, and suggestions.

I might want to add that for my first SunRise. IT ROCKED.... I got up not masisvely early. like 30mins before I normally and the sun happned to be down, and so I set up out my Hotel window set the ND to 1/64 and set my iris to what I might think would be good, Just a guess, and I dont remember what it was. but at a 1/64th, maybe I was at like 2.8. Shot at a 2fps. If you noticed the clip was ended just a little early, I had some massive dirty window action going on, and am embarrassed to show :)

These are all you? they seemed to change styles a little... just wondering.

about 3/4 in it looked like you did some background interval rec but the pans look jumpy!

Constructive C.

Bull dozer shot, Vail? I love CO!

DelRio: Bulldozer show was BeaverCreek.

Your question about the pans are answered 2 above. :(

Great stuff.. Love the watermark.. Very artistic ;-)
Did you have your image stabilization on while on the tripod? That will give you extreme problems with the over compensation of the stabilization..
Only snow I saw this year in FL, was some potato flakes used in a studio scene through a snow basket.. BOOOOO HOOOOOO :-(

Keep up the good work..

Justin: OIS on? O-GOD NO!!! Ahh got to love Potato flakes. hmm come to think of it I dont , yuck.. ever eat those instant stuff? yuck :) But I guess they are good for fake snow. sweet deal never knew that !
