Fig Rig + Marshall + 2 Remotes + Quickbase + Stand

Here are some screen shots of my Fig Rig setup. I had this at the recent LA HVX User Group meeting. The Marshall, Quickbase, stand and two remotes work well together. I was gonna just send these shots to my buddy, G-man (congrats on the arrival of his new baby - the HVX). :) Then I thought I'd just post it up here for everyone to see.

The two Varizoom remotes allow for simultaneous focus & zoom. The stand/base make it easy to assemble the Fig Rig. The designer of the Quickbase is coming out with an accessory that allows it to attach to any tripod.

Holy crikey! That's incredible! I've always wondered where and how an
marshall would fit on a fig rig. What's the final weight?

Final weight? With everything you see? Hmmm . . . I'll go with . . . "fairly heavy." :)
It's not too bad just don't make it a habit of using it for too long at a time. Unless you want big biceps and a sore back. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I'll try to weigh it later . . .

Cool

Cool

I like the setup. Can you pan with that stand, or do you still recommend purchasing a tripod and fluid head?

Thanks for the kudos regarding the camera. I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of my p2 card!! :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

There's an idea! Maybe the makers of the Fig Rig could add a plate to the bottom of the rig so you could attached a tripod base plate to it. That way if you wanted to put it on a tripod you could just click it into place as it is, without having to unmount everything from the Fig Rig. Then when you want to go handheld just unclick and away you go.:dankk2:

You can pan. No tilt. However, I DO NOT recommend using this in place of a tripod and there's a plethora of reasons why. Trust me on this, G-Man.

Oh, man how many times I've wished for this. It's not the hardest thing to go from Fig to Tri, but it is a bit tedous when trying to work quickly.

(2 cents froma DVXer)

you need a strap for around your shoulders so you can hang it on you

maybe some surplus webbing straps, theyre designed to hold hundreds of pounds and are tough as nails.

I've seen the prototype for the tripod connection. It's great! The designer said he wanted a little more time to improve it for more rigidity.

Yuli,

That's an impressive setup. Did you design that yourself? How much is that setup?

Yuli how come you decided to mount your light and shotgun on the multi itself instead of on the camera. I used to use my mulit rig with my VX2100 and used a similar setup.
But now that I also shoot with a PD170, I now mount the shotgun and light, and wireless on the camera. this frees me up to use the Multi rig in any configuration that I want.
I do have a Varizoom LANC control mounted on the left handle though, since the left handle always stays in the same place in any configuration.

wish I knew how to post photos, Anyway, here is my multirig in fig rig style with monitor mic light and is ready to fly as dual grip stabilizer in a second, camera plate attached to the base

I finally got around to weighing it.

As shown, and if my scale is accurate, it is just about 10 lbs.

well it's nice to see the Sini-Vision Quick-Base QB-01 put to good use. I do have plans for a tripod mount which allows you to mount the QB-01 to ANY fluid head allowing you pan and tilt shots and while still shooting to lift the Fig Rig setup off the QB-01 and follow your talent.

We also have our own prototype 2 handed stabilizer we are working on as well as a small plethera of new Mini DV products for the serious shooter.

Feel free and contact me via joe@sinivision.com for details and or questions and suggestions for the Fig Rig and QB-01 and or other!

I picked up my Fig Rig from Ablel and got a different way of setting it down...
(a cheaper way)

I purchased the Fig Rig Clamp for $55.- and I am using it on my tripod...

It is more shaky than DC's setup which I got my hands on thanks to him
bringing it to the last LA HVX meeting, much nicer indeed but what is it?
$200 and then you have to get the stand? I figured the tripod will be in
the corner un-used while Figgin' but if I had the extra $ I wouldn't mind
carring the extra stand around too much for the added stability... It's not
like it is going to fall or go anywere but I still get my stomach a tad closer
to my throat when I'm setting up.

Also, you won't be able to pan and then pick it up and follow your talent
with the clamp. You have to tighten it nice and tight.

I also got the C-Stand adapter so when I get my C-stands I'll be ale to use one of them instead... but I don't know if I will... but it was $14

Also, I am trying to fig-ure out where to mount my Varizoom...
I got the one with the Rocker zoom controller and now I am
considering returning it to exchange it for the throttle controller
since I think having it at the end of the grips on the fig rig would
be best, so that your hands are below the midpoint where the
righ is widest... that way your hands are "below" the rig and
you are pushing a bit more than pulling it up... the problem is that
there isn't enough space, and the ends of the grip have a plastic
piece that is too wide for the Varizoom's clamp to fit over, this is
my current positioning with the Rocker version

So what I am force to do it to either be carefull and loose versatility, or
disconnect the zoom and hve no zoom, and then I can operate the focus
with no worry of zooming unintentionally...

Whadayasay DC? Exchange it for the throttle?
