Some frame grabs from my upcoming short film ILLEGAL - HVX + M2

I find myself watching your trailer a couple of times before I go to bed, every night. It is such an inspiration that you achieved that with a prosumer camera. I could type up a storm about all the little details I love (the saturated gritty look, the handheld feel, the male lead's stare - he reminds me of Christian Bale, the lighting, etc). Even the music adds so much to the atmosphere. Is this a feature film? I hope so.

I can definitely see some 'Heat' influences. Not quite sure where, but they're there. Maybe it's the music.

There is one shot that doesn't seem as strong as the rest, and I'll mention it hoping you remember I'm in love with your work: 1) When the lead's working in the kitchen and someone walks in. I guess everything else is a nice shallow DOF, and in that shot you can see all the way to the door, where the guy comes in. That sort of takes away the film look.

Fabulous job, once again. By far the best HVX200/DVX100 footage I've seen since I joined this forum. Your trailer stands miles above the rest.

Ok, that's got to be the best HVX footage that I've seen yet!

What's going on with this film?

The trailer could be cut down alot.

presario20 that was an awesome trailer man. did you have to buy the rights for the music? if so how much does it cost to use in a short film? i listen to that track from "Man of Fire" almost everyday at work. also, where'd you get the fake cash from in that scene where he dumps money on the table? (i'm assuming it was fake cash  )

SHOW OFF!

Naw that is incredible stuff. Why is it always the folks with talent that make the great stuff. I can't figure it out.

Hey Guys,

I'm so sorry for the late response. I've been so busy that it's been hard to hit the forums. We just had a private screening at Warner Brothers and we had it projected in HDCAM 23.98 PSF. It looked amazing!

I've since re-color corrected the film and I'm going to upload clips very soon.

Also, the music from that clip is from Traffic and no, we do not have the rights but we just finished up the actual score for the film with a composer.

We are going to have another screening in the Los Angeles area soon and I'd love whoever's in the area to attend. Brian Valente from Redrock will be there to answer any questions you may have regarding the M2 adapter and we will go through the what we had to do to get the proper look for the film. I'll keep you guys posted on that. Redrock is so amazing. DP's that have seen the new CC'd version swore it was 35. The m2 is that good.

Thanks so much for the kind words guys. It really means a lot!

Also, the actor is an up and coming fellow who's extremely talented. His name is Thomas Blankenship.

Just watched the teaser. Very nice looks you got here... Was most of your look achieved before or after post?

Also, I noticed in the trailer you show people talk, but no audio... is this intentional?

The Invisible HVX!!

wanted to watch the trailor to see the quality of the footage..and for the 1st time i stopped looking at the "footage" and watched the footage ..what i mean is when footage becomes so good technically , it becomes invisible and u start concentrating on other stuff , i know that sounds odd, but thats me.

i have seen a lot of footage from the hvx which is less than pro, thats the nature of it when a cam is this price meaning that a lot of people can shoot stuff with it , people who are not particulary talented..or shoot their mates trying to act with crap sound/lighting ect - when u add good acting , awesome lighting ect then all the technical things that normally stick out....do not and the process really does become invisible..leaving u to watch a film/story unfold.

this is what i just saw watching the trailor/shots for the 1st time and all i can say is well done to all who had a part in creating this.

sorry if what i wrote dosnt make any sense..i've specialied in not making sense for 40 years now!

Hey Guys,

We're in the process of setting up the venue so once I get the details, you guys will be the first to know :)

It will be projected digitally from an HDCAM upconverted tape. If you guys need any post stuff done, I'd highly recommend Plastercity on Sunset in Hollywood. They were so fast and professional. I'd say they are the definitive FCP post house in the LA area.

Here's the new CC'd trailer:
