Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure in Drama

Can one of you send me that walking shot, with audio, where Mark says the spiel about wanting Noa on his team, etc. LOL That cracked me up!

No problem, Brandon. We're on our way to San Francisco right now but will upload all the clips for you when we get back. Also, if Kyle reminds me I'll get you that DVX footage you shot at Thermal along with SR fx.

Back tonight with pix from S.F!

Awesome! That would be terrific Mark! Have a blast in SF! I need to get out there some day.

Man, I live about 30 minutes from S.F. too bad we didn't work out a "meet 'n greet" :) Oh well, maybe next time

Looking forward to more pics/footage

I just watched the "Run" clip...pretty nice looking slo-mo, but I was very disappointed that the requisite "look back, then fall down, then struggle to get up" sequence wasn't included. :) Good job guys, looks like you had a lot of fun.

Nice piano playing too

Peace,
Larry

Not that this thread needs it, but with all the posts & replys, I'm sure that it has earned a sticky!! Man, it is hard to keep up with this thread. Congrats guys, looks like things are coming together well. :)

Well, the East Coast member of TTN has finally concluded his duties and responsibilities to the Holiday Pops!

Hopefully I can catch back up on this thread.

But, being that it is 3:42am (my time), I am off to sleep!!!

Hope all is well in dvxer-world!

You know Ryan, that's not a bad idea. After the fest, of course, this thread should get a sticky, just as a demonstration of what flow is in a dramafest thread.

Sorry for the delay in getting some information on this second location lighting setup. Been a bit under the weather and just now starting to return to a "normal" state.

This was a night-for-day setup that I planned the lighting for based upon both a site survey and a set of pre vis images that Mark prepared before the shooting day. The one thing that I missed (and I don't know how I could have been so stupid) was the tint on the windows. It came out to about a .9 ND equivalent! So, my careful calcs for the necessary instruments were a bit off! I had planned a 2k Fresnel into a 6' x 6' silk for the "sun light" spill through the window. I wanted the wall to read about 1 1/2 to 2 stops above my key (target was 64 foot candles). When we got to this location and I had Tim (our gaffer) start to light it, I was only getting 16 foot candles from the 2k. This meant that we had to scrap the silk and walk the source right into the window. It didn't come off as I had planned, but at midnight, what are you going to do?

The office interior lighting was motivated by the overhead fluorescent fixtures, but was actually lite by two China Balls with ECT (500W) globes. I had planned on using a number of Dedo's above on wall spreaders for hair, back lights and fill, but somehow the 2x4's that I called out never made it to location and again, at midnight you just have to go with what you have at hand. I ended up using only two Dedo on stands as there wasn't many places to hide them (one behind the door, another just off to camera left). The other office space was lite with a single Arri 650 Fresnel and a small Chimera softbox.

I fell too ill to work past the first setup (master shot) and didn't get to make the changes that I wanted for the coverage CUs so they ended up being a bit flatter than I would have wanted, but Tim really came to bat and picked up the slack that I left.

I will look through the BTS photos to see if we have something that shows this setup and post it if I find something.

Thanks for that info Kevin. Very informative! And I feel connected to that set, since I saw it on Sat :) Did you get a chance to see that footage we shot on Sat. Kevin?

Kyle and I are at LAX for brief layover before getting on a plane to the midwest. I'll be able to post more tonnight when I'm finally at my folks house tonight (have uploads for B-man and some more photos to put up here).

Kevin, thanks for that info. I might mention that I've already been able to add exterior morning sky to this shot and with the illumination on the wall it looks great. Its a lock-down shot and the actor does not cross in front of the window so it was about as simple as you could ask for. Thus, it all worked out and looks wonderful (will put up a frame this evening for you to see how it came out).

Take care all of you peeples. Kyle Stebbins is really a delight to have around and I can't wait to have him on the set next month. We had some great adventures and I only wish he lived out here permanently. I think he's going to develop into quite a filmmaker. He's got a lot of talent evident in the little clips he's been shooting and which he has shared with me.

Whoohoo Mark! Can't wait for those clips and pics! I had a little text convo with Kyle this morning! Can't wait to get together with both you guys on our shoot in Jan! It'll be a blast!
