no parts at panasonic?

when i bought my camera at b&h i also picked up a 4 year extended warranty from Mack Camera. well, on a shoot a couple months back we got the dreaded T-Reel Lockup and the only advice i could find was to send it in for service. Also, a year ago or so the camera was dropped and since then the XLR's and the servo Zoom haven't worked. I can live without those two things but obviously not without a tape mechanism.

So now the camera has been at Mack for 2 and a half months. When I spoke to them this week i was told that they didn't have the parts and neither did Panasonic. And they don't know when they'll get some. So my camera is there indefinitely. :( Ah! Anybody have an inside scoop on when Panasonic will have parts? I'm dying here.

I dont know if it's true what im about to tell u. I herd it from word of mouth. More like rumors. They said panisonic are trying to get rid the dvx series as in discountiuing it. I am not sure how relibale the sorce was. But my freind had the same problems as well. It looks to me that it is true.

Just curious, is your DVX an A model, B model, or original?

Sounds bad that you can't get parts from Panasonic. Maybe Mack is...well...messing something up. I've heard less than stellar things about them. Wonder if it's true Panasonic is discontinuing the model. If this thread yields no response, I suggest you PM Jan Crittenden for help.

I dropped my DVX and had to get a new powerboard, it took 3 months to get the part in from panasonic because it was backordered. Maybe this is the same issue with your parts.

john- mine is an A model. the fact that ram's took 3 months is a little reassuring. it still hasn't been 3 months for me so maybe there's a chance (fingers crossed). I'll wait another couple of weeks or so before I bother Jan.

my status was just updated at mack cam! woo hoo! ETA for the part is 2/16. So it looks like my time away from my camera will be limited to just under 5 months. But doesn't that seem like a really long time?

If you use your camera for business then that is unacceptable. They should offer a loaner or reimburse you for rental cost.

Just my $0.02

I would be more than willing to bet that the problem is with your warranty supplier and not PASC. I order items from them all the time and have never encountered a delay of more than 2 to 3 weeks, most of the time, the items are in stock and can be shipped out the same day.

I know this topic has been covered many times in the past and anyone who has needed replacement parts knows that Panasonic has the worst tech support in the industry. The camera is great, but the support is about as weak as it comes which makes it a not-so-desirable piece of equipment to own. If you're a professional like many of us here then we'd all be better off with different cameras. I personally own 2 Dvx's because of the sh*t technical support, it took nearly 2 months for me to get my lens unit replaced in mid 2006, a very unacceptable amount of time in my books, especially when they never know 'exactly' how long it will be for the part.

Good luck with getting your part, and now u know the horrible truth.

yeah, thats what i thought. i don't use the camera professionally. yet. so i can't use that angle. and we actually did end up buying another camera a couple of months ago so we could shoot a dramafest short. at least now we don't have to worry about being stranded without a camera for five months again in the future.
