SDX900 vs/or HVX... I need help please

I will be shooting a short film in early January, combination of INT and EXT, night and day. For the most part, it will have a warmish colour temp and we'll be going for the shallowest focus possible. M2 adapter could be an option.

Trying to decide if I should shoot 2/3" SDX900 with stock lens @ DVCPRO50 24p, or 1/3" HVX200 with stock lens (or maybe M2) @ 720p 24p? (1080i, or 1080p)

Any comments, suggestions

if you want shallow DOF, and cannot get the M2 for the HVX shoot the SDX, but I must warn you the stock glass is crap, breaths heavily.

Thanks.

What about image quality: HVX 720p versus SDX DVCPRO50?

On what will the final release of the short be?
FilmOut or DVD?
If DVD: I´d go with the SDX and good glass.
If Filmout: HVX+M2 and 1080p
Just my 2c.

Thanks for the tipporeenoes! Question though: I've heard about 1080p on the HVX, how do I go about shooting 1080p with 2 x 4GB P2 cards? Possible?

2x4GB = 8 minute takes max in 1080p, enough for most short films;o)
Counting in the unload times of the cards, I would do 4min takes max, then cut, relight/reblock/rehearse, unload the first card and continue on the second...
I probably wouldn´t do it without a third card though, depending on your style and the actors its sometimes nice to just keep rolling...

I'm not worried about 8min max takes, then film itself will max out at 6mins.

So how do I shoot 1080p on the HVX? 24p, 24pN?

Thanks

1080/24pA is the preferred method. Unless you're using Avid, in which case it doesn't (yet) support 24pA, so you might be better off with 1080/24p.

Thanks Barry, so I shoot 1080i @ 24pA and then capture/import with the advanced pulldown removal and essentially my computer will read it as 1080p?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I read a discussion b/w you and Shannon R. back in April of 05, that really clarified the 1080i @ 24pA = 1080/24p.
