Canon GL2 and JVC HD100- need to know

I need to capture 24p footage shot on a GL2, using an HD100 as a deck. Will there be any issues that I need to know about?

That's all I needed to know. And I guess I just have 24P on my mind, since that is about all I hear. It is 24fps, but that would be interlaced. Thanks Barry.

GL2 can do a simulated 30fps in its "frame mode", but it doesn't have any provision for 24p or 24fps simulation.

The new XLH1 and XHA1 can do "24F", so maybe that's what you're thinking of? But the GL2 can't, it can only do a simulated 30p.

That's curious, because the guy that I'm editing the tapes for says they're 24fps. I'm really not familiar with the GL2, so I just took his word for it.

GL2 cannot do 24fps. If it's DV, then it's DV, and the HD100 should be able to play that back.

The danger is if he's not using a GL2, but is instead using a Canon HDV camcorder. They can produce 24fps HDV footage, but no JVC or Sony HDV gear can play that footage. So if it's a GL2 you don't have a problem, it's just DV. If it's 24F footage, then you won't be able to import it from your JVC.

"It was shot at 24 fps on a Canon GL-2, NTSC (-which I believe is the default setting). "

This is directly from his email, so you can see where I was getting that from. Like I said, I have no real experience with the GL2, and only have my GL1 to draw from. But, it is likely that it is just confusion from an inexperienced perspective.

Yeah, what you'll have there is probably "frame mode" footage, which should be edited on a 30p timeline (although you can edit on a 60i timeline too).

It is a weight training video, so I really can't see any reason for 24 fps... but, you know some people- "It's gotta be more film like!"

And thanks again for your input Barry!
