It looks okay.
Is the black to white gradient necessary?
it would look better if the whole thing was white
"letting go isn't ...." could look better on the bottom.
maybe using a different text font would make it better as welll
I would go with a different color for everything except the movie title. That will make the title and feather stand alone more. Also, I would do a different font for everything except the title to make the title stand out more – maybe a sans serif font. I would also move “a Richard Cota film” up to be farther away from the feather – maybe those two text pieces are white and on the black field above. The blur on the edges of the feather is a good idea too because now it seems a little pasted in.
Nice concept, though. I don’t mind the background gradient personally, but to each his/her own.
Thanx i didnt put the poster together, but i'll make the changes i agree the font looks a little to microsoft for my taste, but hey it was free so i'll give it a shot.
Fonts are free dude....just go to any font site and choose one that works for the feel of the pic.
A softer edging on the feather itself would be better as well. I agree
I agree with the font comments. additionally, I believe that in most good movie posters, any slogans (i.e. "Letting go isn't always what it seems") usually refer to some other related graphic element or some other related verbage. The slogan in this poster doesn't relate to the visuals so far as I can tell. Maybe I just don't see it though. Eh, take it or leave it...
If you are using photoshop and colored the feather on a separate layer, change the blending options to screen, lighten, or overlay (possibly soft light, I don't have PS on this comp). It will get rid of those edges and only color the feather.
Yeah read some photoshop tutorials, you need work with the blending and the text is too bland. If you had a really faint feather pattern in the background that might look cool.
I'm a professional Designer, video, interactive, flash, ads, print, audio, things you could do to make it better, ad faint text dropshadow, diff font for the top text, less kidish, and fix that black -white gradient, and its a decent ad.
The glow is basic "glamour" retouching in photoshop. I think there may be some tutorials in the Photoshop forum on this site. Another great resource would be the retouching forum over at DPReview. Add a ".com" for the site. You can also certainly google for glamour retouching, but the forums are great since a method is posted then many other people give their 2 cents or further refine the method.
For everything on posters, http://www.posterwire.com is a great resource. Discussing everything about movie posters and their design.
May I suggest you post some source images and some members in here and try refining your poster a little. If that's something you would be interested in.
