Trailer for the feature "Lynch Mob" shot on the HVX

So are you going to have music from the band "Lynch Mob" started by George Lynch from Dokken? Might want to have your legal team research that to make sure that title is not a trademark.

Titles can't be trademarked or copyrighted. George Lynch didn't invent the term Lynch Mob.

Sorry to disagree (and not trying to be a damper, but when spending tons of money to make a movie you want to sell it to someone in the end. If the legal is not taken care off you are not a happy camper). While titles cannot be copyrighted they indeed can be trademarked. There are several dead trademarks for "Lynch Mob" and a live one for "Lynch Mob Calls". This is doing a search on ustpo.gov. Another good example of titles that can be trademarked. Try putting out anything called "Star Wars".

Actually there are no trademarks with the words "Lynch Mob" in them, there have however been 4 applications for trademarks with those words.

Three of them were for clothing lines called "Lynch Mob". The applications were denied, probably because you can't trademark a generic term as a stand alone mark. "Lynch Mob" is a generic term with plenty of prior arts going back hundreds of years. All three of the applications were denied and the applicants did not respond to the denials so they are classified as "Abandoned and Dead" applications.

The last one is for a company that makes hunting calls and they applied for the mark "Lynch Mob Calls". This is not a generic term and fits their scope of business.

"Star Wars" is not a generic term and probably was a term that had not been commercially used before 1977 and therefore could be trademarked. But other movies like "Bad Boys" (the Sean Penn version) could not be trademarked since that is a generic term leaving the doors open for another movie to be made with same title (the Will Smith version).

A trademark only covers the industry outlined in the trademark application. So a clothing line called "Smith Clothing" could co-exist with a tuna fish company called "Smith Seafood".

I liked the trailer. Just thought I'd give you some feedback.

The Good:

The acting looked really good from what I saw, I also thought a lot of the camera movement was well done (the shot of the car and the girls legs in particular comes to mind.(

The Bad:
As far as trailers go, this one isn't one of the best. The problem is that at 30 seconds it should be no more than a teaser, but through those extremely fast cuts you're able to give away a bit more than a teaser would. Consider slowing it down a bit, make it a minute and a half long theatrical trailer.

The Ugly:
I saw alot of lighting that I didn't like. Stuff was lit too much. I always feel that it is just important to hide things as it is to show them. For a horror movie I wish it looked a little more dark.

Good job though, and good luck to you guys with the film.

Any other info?
How long was the shoot?
Size of the crew?
What lighting package?

Thanks for posting. Pete.

The shoot lasted 35-36 days, not all continuous.
The crew varied in size depending on the needs of the day. At most I think it was 30.
Lights were also depending on the day, we had tungsten of all sizes. We used kinos, we used 2k HMIs also.

To answer some other questions:
There is gore. But not too much. I think it is probably pg-13 gore, with a few R moments. But the movie will be rated R I think.

We shot in 720Pn so we were getting 10 minutes for a 4 gig card. We used a notebook PC with a pcmia slot to download to an external harddrive. Half the time firewire and half the time USB2. We used a system of a unique identifier for each card and a day number that rotated using the hour on the time code, so a card's name could be 025-01, meaning unique 25- temp day number 01. The temp day number was at the request of the AD. She wanted to have a number the assistant camera could program into the camera that the script sup could refer to. On locations away from power we used an inverter and a car battery for the computer and the harddrives.

We used master pedestal of -1 for most of it with a 48 shutter. We pulled focus using the normal focus ring.

We had a Bogen car mounting rig, a Jib (GlideCam 100), a Door dolly, an official Stedicam with operator, sticks and handheld shots. We pulled a car with a trailer to get some shots. We strapped the camera to a pitchfork. We climbed into wrecked old cars for shots.

We had about 20 locations all over North Georgia. I think there are at least 40 death scenes.

We had some really amazingly good days and some really hard days.

All in all it was awesome and I am looking forward to working with the same crew again.

I am not in charge of the release. I do know there is alot of interest in the project. I do not have any definite info about the release as of yet. When I do I will let you all know.

The producer/writer known as AtlantaFilms on this forum is the guy that would know more, when there is more to tell.

The film is still being edited at this time.

Also to fleagut, there should be a longer more informative trailer coming soon.

The cool thing about this film is the story. The film is not just an excuse to kill a bunch of teenagers like some horror films. It has a real cool story.

More later
