Vegas problem with Slow motions AGAIN!

I´ve been experiencing a problem with Vegas 6 and 7 for the last year. Everytime i use slow motion from an interlaced footage, the rendered video results in a flickering video that cannot be used. Sometimes it is not very obvious (fro example in Similo), but sometimes it is a huge problem:

Check this file. That is unaceptable. I cannot work with this.
It does not matter if the video source is HDV or DV. Same problem appears. Upper or lower field does not affect this. I have tried everything without success.

I am working in PAL which means 50i. But i have heard the same problem also applies to 60i (can anyone confirm this?).

Anyone found a solution? Is it a Vegas bug unsolved?

Your going to need to be more specific as to how you are handling the footage. Are you converting the 50i to 50p and then bringing it into a 25P timeline? I have honestly never seen anything like that before from Vegas, I have seen it from Premiere, but never vegas. Does it show this when you are in the time line or just when you render?

man, obviously that is a render, otherwse you would not be able to see it.
Timeline does not matter what it is set as long as it is progressive. 720p, 1080, PAL or NTSC.

I Know that was a render, I was asking if it shows up in the timeline as well. Just trying to help you out man.

;D, yes, it appears in the timeline, in any rendered format. It is not a problem of compression, it is in Vegas interpolation i think.

I've been a Vegas user for a long time now and I have used slow motion to great effect without ever seeing that problem. As you say, that is unacceptable.

If it happens regardless of the type of footage you're using, do you want to post a .veg file somewhere and we can try and replicate it/resolve the problem? It would also help us to see your settings.

I think anyone is getting this same result, but most of the time the effect is very subtle, so only a very trained eye can spot it.

Here is the veg file, as you can see, i have tweaked the curves so the effect is even more noticeable. You can remove them if you want, the problem will still be there:

Hi again,

I'm having problems replicating the problem. Can you post a small clip from your original footage? Also, what %age do you have the slow motion envelope set at?

Thanks.

No, it normally does not act like that. Scharky had some good questions -- are you doing anything to the footage before bringing it into Vegas?

Here's a screen grab of the properties of the veg:

I tried this veg on some SD interlaced footage shot at 50i on an XL2. I rendered it out uncompressed and went through around 60 frames, one at a time, but could not see any flickering or anything that resembled the problem Macgregor is having.

But it could be that my eye is untrained ;-)

Sorry this isn't solving your problem but it is eliminating certain things - like the fact that is does NOT affect all footage.

I also have never seen footage flicker like that, at least not from vegas. Again I have seen this from Premiere 1.5 with 24PA footage, but never from Vegas, and I've done lots of slow motion as well. Could it be a PAL issue? I have never worked with PAL footage so that seems like it is the only other thing it could be.

If you could post your project settings, and workflow to bring your footage into the timeline, we might be able to help you out better.

I posted a screen grab of the project settings (on page 1 of this topic). I'm a PAL user and I don't get these issues which leads me to thinking it it is either a source footage issue or a rendering issue (the only things that differ from macgregors test and my attempt at repeating it). I think macgregor is confusing things with some answers though - eg, can it be seen on the timeline or can't it?

Yes it can be seen on the timeline.
The footage is captured either by firewire as DV or HDV.

It happens with any camera:
XL2, dvx100, sony FX, canon HDV.

It happens with Vegas 6 and 7 ( i cannot talk about 5 since that is too old).

It happens in any PC (and i have tried MANY).

I am quite good with Vegas if not an expert (sorry to speal arrogant, but dont think i am new with this).

Anyone working in PAL, maybe you can upload some interlaced footage in dv or m2t, something small around 6 secons will be enough. And I will show you the flicker.

YESSSSS, minutes ago VEGAS 7.0c was released. And they have fixed the bug!!!! The problem does not appear now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A miracle!
