Buying Gear in Israel?

you dont get so good prices on Panasonic here - you will get much better in china or singapore ( for pal )
what can you get is around 3.65-4+++. depends who are you buying from and what aditional stuff you take .that was before $ went down to toilet , since the cameras priced in yens it might be more these days .
there is authorized dealer who dont haggle at all and bit you to **** with the prices and there is gray market importer who give much better prices and give you his warranty for the product .
batteries - you better buy in the states
tapes - you can get here - about the price dont really know
aditional stuff -it depends ,some cheaper some not .
no one haggle - there is bottom price that every seller know and looks for sucker who will not ask for the discount .
since i quit know some people who sell here (reselers ) ,the money they do on cameras like these are not more 10% , so you can haggle or not but you better look for someone that will give you better castomer support .
by the way Max - why are you sad , is it beecouse you did haggle to much :-)

If you are going to Israel for a shoot, it is much better to bring as much gear and supplies with you as possible. I have bought MiniDV tapes in Israel and of course the prices are much higher than the US if for no other reason than the VAT, duties and exchange rates.

I will probably just buy all my gear before I leave. I just dont know how many tapes to bring...if anyone knows the name of a good shop near Tel Aviv, that would be helpfull. Thanks all.

You could always but a decent supply here boxed up ready to go and then leave them with family, wife, friends or whoever. In the event you find yourself needing more tapes, just call home and have another box shipped.

there are few places in tel aviv , if you stuck give me a call and i will point you to the place .

thats quit stupid since usual it take about 2 weeks get something from the states via post services and cost to much if you send it FedEx .
in most places you can pay in $ ( or other foreigner currency in cash , get passport when you buy)and get free of vat recite , or claim for vat in the airport when you live the country .

Bring minidv tapes, as everything in Israel is PAL based. I rented equipment from a shop in tel-aviv i believe called UTOPIA. If you need other equipment. I shot a music video in August out there. Oleg, we should be in touch i plan on doing some more videos out there soon. In case you missed the video check it out for BETZEFER- EARLY GRAVE. PM me if you have any questions.
